Absolutely! When Hugh looked back at Geordi and Geordi's realization, was such an incredible moment.
Then when it was reveled in "Descent, Part II", that Hugh was behind the separatist group of drones breaking from Lore's influence and machinations, and became a leader himself ; went underground to survive and fight against Lore. And in the end helped the Enterprise-D crew in rescuing Picard, and Data from Lore.
I thought fore sure we would get a Hugh and Geordi reunion there.
Yet the episode was already juggling so much, by the end he was denied seeing his friend again.
Sadly that moment was painfully left missing.
Hopefully they can finally explore it here.

I'd like to think that Geordi kept up with him from time to time, discussing the latest eye implant technology or virtual imaginary girlfriend problems

Although apparently he's been much busier than that.
I am really curious how he ended up working with or among Romulans in the "Artifact" / Decommissioned Borg Cube.
was this by his design?
He seems very curious about Soji's strong empathy with the so called "nameless".
With her connection to Data, this seems ominously familiar, to the relationship Lore had with the decommissioned drones.
Yet while Lore's intent was to bend their will to his own.
She seems inclined to the opposite direction, not in controlling them, but helping to free them.
And we've seen hints's that it is Hugh, who will help her escape!

in TNG-as-Tarot, Hugh might be said to to be the Hanged Man or La Pendu, a juxtaposition on Data, who, as the Fool, or zero, has been conducting his fool's journey across the tableau. Hugh has been through much of this journey himself, but remains at the cross of decision, able to assert his will but either unready or unwilling to break the final bonds that would gain him ultimate liberation (Le Monde)
This^. The two part Descent seems like critical viewing.
As it continued the narrative of the first reclaimed Borgs, or De-Borged .
(Are we officially calling them "xBs"' as per Hugh in episode 3)
Lore had a specific plan to have them not assimilate, but ultimately replace humans, and was using a hybrid tech (you have to wonder what they are doing with the Borg elements being bagged, where are they going, and to what ends) of his own and Borg elements, while somewhat capitalizing on their awoken individuality. Yet bending that to his will and purpose. See the synths.
If Madoxx in his obsession, reactivated and helped Lore in his quest we may be seeing the results of that.
And xBs like Hugh and Seven might be those who have one foot in both worlds.
It's so weird, Hugh says [humans] see them as either "property(which was the theme of the episode which introduced Maddox) or a hazards to be eliminated" yet it's the Romulans who see them as both.
Why is he working with them?

Yes, Del Arco is gay. Not sure it matters, and he honestly doesn't come across as that "camp" to me.
Hugh in TNG felt more childlike, here he felt slightly camp. Whilst it doesn't really matter with regards to the character, if it's unintentional then it's not great acting if people can pick up on it.
Del Arco tells the story of how, when he played Hugh originally, he was playing his recently deceased partner; this time, he's playing himself. Rather than call it bad acting, maybe we can call it an evolution or liberation for Hugh as much as Del Arco. After all, people change in demeanor throughout their lives.

If it's intentional then it wouldn't fall under bad acting would it.
gay ≠ camp necessarily
You can be perceived as having some gay affectation without playing campy, which D'Arco is certainly not.
You need to explain this one. We see Hugh in "professional" capacity alone. Why are you trying to determine his sexual preferences, and how do you reach this conclusion? As it is well known that the actor is gay, do you think you were vaguely aware of this or do you have the superpower of advanced gaydar?
