Obi Wan series on the way?

Yeah, but he certainly was not invited back.

Because Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment executives overreacted to fan backlash and decided to "flip the tea table" after-the-fact.

It should be remembered, though, that at least someone at the Executive level believes in the viability of the film universe that Snyder helped launch since it continues on with two releases - Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) and Wonder Woman 1984 - coming this year and at least 3 films in active development and scheduled for release in the next 2 years.

What kinds of connections to the formerly mainline universe do you expect in those two movies? I fully expect slim to none.

Both BoP and WW1984 are confirmed to be direct follow-ups to Suicide Squad and Wonder Womsn, respectively, so I don't know why you wouldn't be expecting connections to those films and their predecessors/successors to be present.

Did Wonder Woman have any real connections to the universe? Suicide Squad did have lip service at least, but I am willing to bet that Birds of Prey won't even have that.

EDIT - I do admit that the Superman cameo in Shazam was kind of cool, but that was more comedic than an actual reference to the universe.

Lucasfilm changed their schedule and chose to shift their focus towards Disney+. Warner Brothers completely restructured their film division after BvS, demoted Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, and gone through 4 different directors on the Flash movie alone, not to mention firing Zack Snyder in the middle of their massive team-up movie. There has been a lot of shakeups at the executive level at DC, but Bob Iger has never shown anything but support for Kathleen Kennedy. Lucasfilm rolled with the punches. DC panicked.
Exactly, DC moved a bunch of people around behind the scene, and decided to completely change the approach they were taking with the whole franchise, all Disney and Lucasfilm did was decide to spread things out a bit more.

maybe they shouldn't be announcing SO many projects to the public if they are not ready

Snyder wasn't fired. He backed out due to issues in his personal life.
You're right. I had read that he had been removed earlier than reported, but it looks like that was a rumor (it came from Collider, back when I still thought they were a good source).
