Wait, wait... you're arguing that Troi was raped... and Tyler wasn't? I don't even know how to respond to that.
The owls are not what they seem.

Picard still has that neural defect which Crusher said could lead to him developing multiple neural disorders later on. Maybe this is another one.
My log does not judge. The owls are not what they seem.

Yeah, both "The Child" and "Unexpected " in ENT play fast and loose with consent. Its disgusting yet gets ignored.Tyler, however, didn't have the sex. Voq did. Tyler just remembers the sex Voq had. I'm not sure how to qualify it. If one has multiple personalities, do all of them need to consent for the sex one of them has for it to be consensual?
I don't care how Trois impregnation was achieved or how she acted afterwards. She still didn't consent.
He's traumatized by memories of a sexual experience he did not consent to. Memories of something that happened to his body. It's rape.IMO, Tyler remembers what Voq consented to, but for a human being, I can see that Klingon sex could be pretty traumatizing. But he's traumatized by something he's experiencing second hand through someone else's memories.
Man Trap has a pretty great ethical dilemma at its core: Should we kill the last of its kind, even if it’s killing us? And the answer is yes, which is pretty darn shocking by modern Trek standards.
yep, they'd have two of the same sex so that they can shoot one and save the otherThere was no dilemna at all. They killed first and waxed poetic about the buffalo later. McCoy's dilemna was a problem with killing his lady love.
They could have tried to trap it & drop it on a salt rich planet. Nada.
Again, you are 100% right that would not happen now.
Welp, this thread is effectively dead. I've been reading the same continuous argument for 5 pages now and it looks nowhere close to a resolution. Can't wait for the episode 2 thread on Thursday.
It's not grim dark to explore war.![]()

No it’s not.
It is grim dark to have people’s insides on the outsides for a few different reasons but the time you get a few episodes in, and have some of those insides be inside someone else as well. It was like a running theme.
Space 1999 was just as dark as Discovery is, and it was on network TV in the 70s. Disco is hardly grimdark.
It always happens, so I just skip over it.A bunch of people earlier in this thread chastised me for suggesting that we'd be best served to avoid "DSC vs PIC arguments" with the usual "THIZ IZ A STAR TRACK MASSAGE BORED WUT U EXPECT US 2 DO U IDEEIT!?!!!1!?" retorts.
I rest my case, with great satisfaction.
Some comparison is inevitable, but this has gone seriously off the rails.A bunch of people earlier in this thread chastised me for suggesting that we'd be best served to avoid "DSC vs PIC arguments" with the usual "THIZ IZ A STAR TRACK MASSAGE BORED WUT U EXPECT US 2 DO U IDEEIT!?!!!1!?" retorts.
