My quickie observation from the first viewing of "Rememberance".
- Yes it's a dream, but Data and Picard can't be in Ten-Forward by the placement of the windows, unless Ten Forward has been one room to port of the ship's centerline all this time. In any case, from the outside there was only one "room" lit, where Ten-Forward had three times that many windows. And no, the window sizes don't match.
- Was Ten-Forward a CG set? I'm willing to be much of it is; aside from the table and chairs there was little else that needed to be interacted with.
- Yes it's a dream, but the Enterprise-D was NEVER that dusty. Picard dreams in 4K, it seems.
- A farmer on Reddit has pointed out that there's no way in hell that those hover irrigators are spraying insecticides, as the field workers wouldn't be anywhere near them outside, unless 24th century insecticides are engineered not to affect humanoids anymore. That said, if it IS just water, it's a LOT of it given that at least five separate machines are seen close together in the one field.
- Whatever Kasidy Yates is up to these days, is big enough to warrant a flashy billboard in Boston!
- I don't think we've seen a MALE Xahean before, so maybe whatever he's got going on top of his head is a natural thing. Or a choice, like Po's facial coloring that he doesn't have? Aliens are weird.
- While it's more a plot point, the attackers' speaking English or Romulan has always been indistinguishable from the POV of the person listening, so why make the distinction now? Or are we saying that universal translators aren't embedded in the walls?
- Chateau Picard looks completely different than it did before. We DON'T know if Robert and Rene died in a fire in the chateau specifically, but it's a convenient excuse to wipe away the old house AND the forest it was nestled in, replacing it with another one of completely different architecture and style.
- That said, THIS Chateau has some of the more modern conveniences, like a fridge, TV and such. Robert had an aversion to this stuff (as did their parents), so it seems a Jean-Luc thing to do upon rebuilding the place. And it's still retro enough that the light switches and other appliances are like the ones we use...
- The replicator effect is more "3D printer" like Discovery (but not exactly Discovery) and less a simple cross-fade effect. Still, it DOES happen on an open chamber as more expected and not behind a door. The replicator has TNG-style LCARS... Surplus unit, perhaps?
- I'm okay with visual news being a thing again - no one's watching television entertainment, so that's probably still a passe thing in this era, but unlike the other TNG era shows, the news is just ON all the time here; I see this as an accurate reflection on today's media being everywhere.
- That said, NO ONE LIKES WATCHING TV THROUGH A SEMI-TRANSPARENT SCREEN. NO. ONE.
- Has the Federation News Network replaced the Federation News Service that Jake was writing for?
To be continued... So much to comment on!
