Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Hmm...my memory and Memory Alpha says different

I can’t see it in the transcript.

There’s just a reference to receiving a personal message, and then:

PICARD: Oh, it's just family matters. ...You never met my brother and his wife, did you?
(Picard opens a photo-album that he had been studying)
TROI: No.
PICARD: Robert. ...So opinionated. So pompous and arrogant. He always had to have the last word. But he mellowed a little bit in the last few years. I was going to get together with them all next month on Earth. I thought we'd go to San Francisco. René's always wanted to see Starfleet Academy.
TROI: René? Oh, your nephew.
PICARD: He's so unlike his father. He's a dreamer. Imaginative. ...Very gentle.
TROI: What's happened?
PICARD: Robert and René, they're... ...burned to death in a fire.

Nothing about Marie as the sender, or as a victim.

If the fire had claimed Marie as well, Picard definitely would have said so. He didn't, so I think we can safely assume that she survived. And I'm definitely of the mind that she was the one who sent the message informing Jean-Luc of the fire. (Memory Alpha seems to agree as well.)

That said, I'm wondering if Marie will turn up in PIC. Samantha Eggar is apparently still with us, and lives in L.A., where PIC is being filmed, so it's possible we could see Marie again...

Yes, but she seems to be retired, IMDB has latest performance being in 2012, I can't see her coming back (or being brought back for that matter) for a character she plaid for part of one episode 30 years ago.

^ Anything's possible.

I mean, Jonathan Del Arco only played Hugh a couple of times, and HE's returning, so... ;)

In any case, even if Samantha Eggar is retired from acting, I think she'd return if asked, and if she liked the script. Stranger things have happened.

Twice. And, well, he's a more meaningful character in the "lore" of Trek and seemingly in where this story is going. Same with Maddox, only appeared once but in a more meaningful manner and mentioned later in the series as well and also more important to the story we're dealing with.

Picard's sister in law? What does it matter?

I wouldn't mind seeing Marie. I don't think bringing back the original actress would matter that much since both Robert and René were recast for the photographs in Picard's family photo album. Go for it.

I don't think we'll see her, but it would be nice. A mention of what happened to his sister-in-law after her husband and son died would also suffice to fill in the gaps.

I do agree with others about the aspect ratio. It’s a TV show, not a film. Just seems a waste having those black bars on the screen.

Was this actually considered or is that a fan video?

Gotta say - even though I'm not at all obsessive about the Inner Light and even though I don't mind the credits sequence they chose - that this version just feels vastly superior to what's in the show. It flows a lot better with the visuals and it feels more appropriate to the show (at least based on the first episode).

Fan video. As far as I know the suite from "The Inner Light(TNG)" was never considered for the theme.

Thank Chuck.
They should never use anything from that dreary episode.
The First Contact or a more subdued version of Archer’s theme would be better.

What about his friend? The chap who was leading the Atlantis project.

Louis might already be in the series. Actor David Paymer (seen in the trailer) may very well be playing him.

In my head-canon, it was always an insurance job:

as the flames raced up the walls, robert realised he has used too much accelerant. It had all seemed so simple, he could turn around the failing vineyard with the insurance money.

As he slumped to the floor, his last thought was... wait don't I live in a moneyless socialist utopia? what insurance money?

Patrick Stewart and Jeri Ryan have nice off-screen chemistry :-)
( And where is that fountain of youth located?)

Really looking forward of seeing Picard and Seven on screen together.
