A franchise should always be expanding its audience. They are selling a product to an audience and working to keep their attention. Diversifying your audience is not a bad thing, and insisting that a franchise is to remain static is condemning it to stagnation and irrelevance. It is also a form of gatekeeping, stating that this franchise has always been "fill in the blank" and therefor nothing can change.

Imagine SW as your best friend and then tell me you would be fine with your friend never changing. Not changing in their attitudes, their beliefs, their habits or their interactions, no matter how off putting, limiting, or self-destructive. Stagnation is not healthy.

Based on this survey, the fan base is 60% male. What evidence are you using to make this claim?

SW found its audience not because it catered to everyone, it found it because the stories it told were universal (yes despite having white leads and one female character and despite being targeted to kids). Yet the story was human, and the world expansive. This new audience they are trying to cater to, they do a good job complaining on Twitter but they are not the ones that have been around and appreciated what had been done and were willing to impart this on the children, the next generation. They are not buying the merchandise, and beside making a lot of noise, they accomplish nothing. your new audience is made of paper.. they are not real fans

And this is where the argument falls apart. This is complete gatekeeping and is absolute garbage.

There is no reason to take it seriously.

I provided evidence and asked for yours, which you haven’t provided. I can only assume you made it up entirely like most of what you claim. This is why no one takes you seriously.

Same applies to videos. Clearly no argument is present here.

they are trying to cater to the normies and the wine moms who have enough money to take their kids to the parks. That's what it's all about. And instead of celebrating the history of the franchise, they use that legacy to merely advertise for their new garbage stories and toss that legacy out at whim, until the attendance starts to dip and then they call upon the old icons again

as for my argument falling apart.. you never HAD an argument. You just had an ill-informed position

You’re doing an awful lot of projection. If you had an argument you’d be able to present it and provide proof, but you can’t so you scream that everyone else is wrong. This isn’t how you win, this is the start of a mental breakdown.

If the argument involves belittling, name calling groups of people then it is not an argument worth taking seriously.

Versus, expanding a franchise's fan base, inviting more people to participate, and acknowledging that more than one demographic exists in the market. The argument is simple-expand your audience. It's called good business. The current paper-thin argument is "stay in the paper credit slip days" while digital computing is available.

Good business is the ultimate belittlement of artistic vision.

Again, you can include everyone. but how you do it is the key.

Nope. Lots of classic art was commissioned, Lucas recognized good business in merchandising, etc. etc. Good art is a balancing act of vision and business, limits and abilities.

How was it done? Oh, they included a female lead, a black co-lead and Hispanic co-lead. That's it. It's not offensive save for those looking to be offended for reasons that, thus far, have not made rational sense or connected with reality.

I already went over that in my long paragraph. Oh let's add KK's admiral Holdo to the mix.. make sure she reminds us how superior women are. Oh let's spend more time in the film watching Rose (a character we haven;t met) mounring a character we met for five minutes than even giving a thought to mourning Han Friggin solo.. because.. women.

All of which is your opinion and interpretation of the movie, it isn’t proof of anything. It’s just why you didn’t like it and has no impact on any other human being since we can’t feel how you feel.

As I stated, your paragraph doesn't connect with reality. It's an interpretation that doesn't fit.

As "because women" is a bigoted statement that ignores what is actually going on on screen. That's why this argument makes no sense. "Women" is used as a pejorative. That's garbage.

I mean the producer is pretty blind about Star wars. Han was an important character.. has been for generations. But we see Rose crying for what is her name .., hey be happy you dgot the garbage fire of a movie you wanted because it checked off a lot of boxes. Still stupid AF

I guess time will tell. Star Wars (1977) is still an amazing film people still talk about for 40 years. tLJ is the garbage fire that caused them to fire the guy who was going helm the next installment, and caused the new director to repair a lot of things, to mend fences with the fans.. and the trilogy itself is just so average.. it limped to a billion dollars crawling on its hands and knees.
