They might have meant that, but it was never specified. Following that proclamation (it might have been Stewart who said it, I can't remember), this board was abuzz about which Enterprise they meant. We knew it was partially misleading, because of the holographic Galaxy class in SFHQ. But the appearance in the new trailer contradicts it. Although in their defense, it's likely part of Picard's dream, which probably zooms in through the Ten Forward windows to him and Data playing poker (haven't seen it yet -- no spoilers, please!). So it's not "really" the Enterprise.

To be fair, just because a shot is in a teaser or trailer; it doesn't always mean said shot will end up in the final cut of the actual episode.

Not all shots from trailers end up in the final product.

Can you imagine the uproar on this board if those shots don't make the final cut?

The same uproar we saw with the Magee class...? I figured we'll get that no matter what.

It's a stupid detail that if not necessary for the story shouldn't be in the story. In my humble and very unpopular opinion.

Good for them. If they didn't I would not be surprised.

I do believe this thread is flagged for spoilers for children of mars - not the actual Picard episodes, so I’d suggest a spoiler tag for later episodes

    With that in mind

That initial 3,000 dead rather rather an understatement!

Today is First Contact Day and I've had Children of Mars on the brain for some reason, moreso than the movie. I decided to rewatch this today and noticed the end credits was the Piano version of the Picard theme. I also wonder if wonder we might get the kids back, or have a short trek showing if they were able to grow a friendship and where they were post Mars attack. I think this could be a good short trek to follow up on when we can get back to some sort of normalcy after this Virus.

They should appear as adults in S2.

They'd be about 27-28 years old. One or both could be Ensigns or even Lieutenants in Starfleet and serving to honor their parents who died to keep the Federation well-defended. It would be a nice tip of the hat to a Short Trek and direct continuity to one, something that's not always common with the shorter episodes.

Memory Alpha lists her species as unknown. I thought she might be a Xhedan, but the makeup doesn't match.

Finally watched the shorts today. All these years, multiple attacks on the Sol system and starfleet still leaves their primary shipyard undefended, at least it looks that way solely from the short.

Well Picard points out that it was defended, the Synths just shut them some of them down and used the rest to destroy the place.

We know Mars has a Defense Perimeter from TNG. We can only assume it was just as strong or even stronger by 2385 but was deactivated or otherwise neutralized by the Synths. Once they hacked into the planet's computer system they could shut down every satellite, drone craft and other piece of technology that could have destroyed their ships.

Considering that those ships bore prominent Starfleet insignia in at least one depiction of the event, they probably were the Defense Perimeter. We graphically see the turning inward of those orbital installations in the PIC imagery, so the arrival of the kiteships is probably just more of the same, even if the Short has less explicit graphics.

Nobody seemed to be unclear about who did the attacking: the newsflash already blames Rogue Synths with conviction. So the ships doing the attacking were no mystery to anybody - and having them employed by Mars is a good excuse for them loitering nearby just before they are turned into instruments of death. (Having them flown by Synths would call for more in-depth rationalization, but they probably aren't flown by anybody, merely commanded by Mars-dwelling Rogue Synths whose actions are damningly on video).
