What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

Yeah, from the bits and pieces we've heard I'm pretty sure the only MCU elements the Sony Spider-Verse movies are able to reference are ones from the Spider-Man movie.

Sure, yes, from a corporate/licensing standpoint, that's true. But the point is, it looks like Sony intends to portray its Spidey universe movies as if they take place in the MCU, rather than a separate reality. The MCU probably won't reciprocate, but that's the presumption the filmmakers at Sony want us to take away. So it's like tie-in novels, in a way. Sometimes a tie-in line only has a license to portions of the franchise it connects to and isn't allowed to reference anything beyond them, but its stories still purport to be set in the same reality as that franchise. (Like the way Marvel's post-TMP Trek comic was nominally forbidden to reference characters and storylines from TOS, though it still managed to sneak a few past the radar.)

I can imagine the Sony movies will "take place in the MCU" the same way the Netflix shows did..

I just hope if they do claim to be, there aren't any clumsy mistakes like it saying it takes place in 2020 but then not mentioning that would be during the "five years later" Snap period, as Endgame & Far From Home were in 2023 etc, that kinda thing.

Yes, exactly. However, before the Morbius trailer, we didn't know if they were even going to pretend they were in the MCU, as opposed to being their own separate universe like the X-Men movies were. Now we do know.

Sir Patrick Stewart had a meeting with Kevin Feige and one of the things that they discussed was Professor X. Long story short-- Sir Patrick would have been happy to return to the wheelchair if it hadn't been for Logan. He feels Logan was the perfect cap for the character and doesn't want to undo that.

For my part, as much as I loved him as the character, hell he was my dream casting choice for the character several years before he was actually cast, I'm willing to move on to a new Professor X for the MCU.

However, he did mention that Professor X was only one of the things that they discussed. Would I like to see him in a new role for the MCU? Oh, hell yeah!

He was for a lot of people, including me and a college friend in the late '80s. And if you read Diane Duane's 1997 novel X-Men: Empire's End, you can tell she writes Xavier with Stewart's voice in mind (e.g. having him say "Grand" like Picard).

Would I like to see him in a new rule for the MCU? Oh, hell yeah!

I dunno... He's already done Star Trek and Marvel... It'd be cool to see him join some other franchise. Ooh, he should do Doctor Who.

Love to see him in Who. I could also see him as the Ultra-Humanite in the DCEU/DCW. Pre-mind transfer physically and voice afterwards.

I love the scene thein Michael Jan Friedman's 1996 Star Trek / X-Men crossover novel where the X-Men met Picard and noticed the resemblance between him and Prof. X.

As much as I would love to see his Professor X again, I agree with Stewart that Logan was the perfect closure for the character and it shouldn't be undone. It would be great to have in the MCU in another role but they would need to make him look physically different so people don't immediately think of Professor X.

He would also be great on Doctor Who. Maybe his pal Ian McKellen can talk him to doing it since McKellen has already done it. ;)

Maybe a voice role? Putting him in Guardians 3 or a Doctor Strange (or maybe Captain Marvel ?) sequel voicing Eternity would be pretty cool.

for a more obscure live action role, maybe one of the other Elders of the Universe (aka the family that includes The Collector and the Grandmaster). Make him The Gardener, put him in a scene with Goldblum and Del toro (if The Collector is still alive), and you'd probably have a pretty entertaining scene (although it would be more like a cameo then an actual role).

Given that there was already the supposed 8 year gap between the Battle of New York and the main events of Spider-Man: Homecoming, I don't look too closely at the timelines.

Actually, when that first happened, my original thinking was that they were trying to make up for lost time because, while there was a 4 year gap between Iron Man and The Avengers IRL, in-universe it was supposed to be more like a year and a half. (There's about a 6-month gap between Iron Man & Iron Man 2. Coulson leaves at the end of Iron Man 2, leading directly into the events of Thor. Then in The Avengers, Fury says that the events of Thor happened "last year.") I figured that, in-universe, they were going to finesse a longer period of time between The Avengers & Captain America: Civil War. But it didn't really turn out that way and the 8-year reference has been both forgotten and outright contradicted by subsequent movies, particularly Infinity War.

My dream role for Patrick Stewart has been for him to show up on Red Dwarf, maybe as king of the Cat people or something.

Can't remember if it was Kevin Feige or the Russo Brothers, but they admitted in an interview that 8 years thing was totally a mistake and didn't know what happened with that.

I would also be happy for Stewart to have a new character for any work he does in the MCU. He's right about his interpretation of Charles Xavier being done with Logan.

Captain Marvel 2 has officially entered the pre production stage with WandaVision writer Megan McDonell writing the script. There's a certain amount of continuity there as she's picking up with adult Monica Rambeau in WandaVision who will be a part of SWORD, both of which will be relevant to Carol Danvers. Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will not be returning, but apparently may still do something with Marvel Studios down the line.

I thought they lost so much money on marketing and buying cinema tickets for the first one?

It almost like Captain Marvel was a massive success or something...
