Is it true John Eaves is working on this series’ starship designs?
I'm kinda over his style of starship design. I would like to see another illustrator take a crack at designing new ships.

agreed. i like eaves' work from the 90s and he basically rose to the challenge of designing distinct, new ships to fill out the federation fleet in discovery. but they're distinct, new john eaves ships and i think it'd be nice if we got something brand new.I'm kinda over his style of starship design. The problem is that the producers think he is some hotshot ship designer when in truth most of his work is very derivative.
E is not exactly amazing. Eaves is fine, but his designs are rather samey. Sharp and angular. No matter what era, no matter what species, they look distinctly eavesian. Personally I'd like to post TNG ships to follow the style of galaxy class, more flowing organic shapes. I think that would communicate the high tech better.Wait, but Eaves designed the Enterprise-E and similar classes, didn't he? Isn't that what people want for starships in Picard?
Exactly. it's at least an opportunity to show a new generation of ships being on the cusp of the 25th century and all. just like probert created a new design language for TNG and the 24th century, a new designer (or eaves if he's able to) could create something fresh for this period in trek.Personally I'd like to post TNG ships to follow the style of galaxy class, more flowing organic shapes. Assuming that there is gonna be more Discovery era Trek it would be even more important to create a distinct style for the late 24th century of Picard. Each era should have its own iconic and recognisable look.it's at least an opportunity to show a new generation of ships being on the cusp of the 25th century and all. just like probert created a new design language for TNG and the 24th century, a new designer (or eaves if he's able to) could create something fresh for this period in trek.
i'm concerned everything is going to look like discovery and since the only ships we've seen thus far are literally from discovery, welp...
Perhaps the handwringing can wait until after the premieri'm concerned everything is going to look like discovery and since the only ships we've seen thus far are literally from discovery, welp...

where's the fun in that?Perhaps the handwringing can wait until after the premier![]()
I already predict that the first episode of PIC will urinate on my childhood and travel back in time to kick me in the nuts. There might also be the theft of my favorite childhood granola bar or candy.

Indeed. They really do look like they could be early 25th Century ships, don't they?I legit like them better here than I do in DSC. Far as I'm concerned, DSC is the one that got it wrong.
The Enterprise-E is the only standard 24th Century Starfleet ship he designed for the shows/movies.Wait, but Eaves designed the Enterprise-E and similar classes, didn't he? Isn't that what people want for starships in Picard?

Eh? If someone told me the DSC designs weren't done by Eaves I'd believe them. None of them look like anything he had done before Discovery. No matter what era, no matter what species, they look distinctly eavesian.
