I'm very excited about this new show but one thing I don't like is the title "Star Trek: Picard". Personally, I would have preferred it just be Picard, but I can see why they had to call it what they did. Marketing, of course. It's an unfortunate reality.

Another title that came to mind last week thanks to someone else's post was Star Trek: The Next Chapter. It's a nice title, it fits the show's subject matter (the next chapter of Picard's life) and it's reminiscent of The Next Generation.

What do you think of the title Star Trek: Picard?

I like it but I would've just called it Picard.

I voted, "I don't like it and would have preferred it just be "Picard" because it's not exactly what I think but it's closest to what I do think. "Star Trek: Picard" sounds like someone wanting to say "Star Trek: The Next Generation" but they were drunk and forgot the title.

Back in 1998, I was hanging out at this get-together where someone called TOS "The James Kirk Star Trek" instead of "The Original Star Trek" or "The Old Star Trek" or "The Original Series". It sounds like the same type of thing. "Oh, we've got the Picard Star Trek!"

I would've preferred Star Trek: Destiny.

It's a passing of the torch from TNG to the new generation.

I'm trying to imagine the outrage if they had dropped the "Star Trek" in front of the title. In fact, I don't really have to imagine much, I remember what it was like when they did that with ENT. We'd have that outcry all over again, AND it would - once again, just like it did with ENT - have given the haters yet ANOTHER reason to scream "it's not canon, it's not even called Star Trek", etc., etc.

I'm just glad it's not the ultra-bland, over-used, sounds-like-a-fan-film Star Trek: [shipname] format.

I wish they'd called it The Picard Show, but Jonathan Frakes referred to it as that once so I'm happy.

I'd have rathered just Picard, but that's how we're going to refer to it for the rest of our lives I'm sure, so doesn't matter what's on the logo.

Yup---I can't remember the last time I heard someone SAY "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"

They should have called it the Jean Luc club

Well, the tried Enterprise but then backtracked. So I doubt they were going to do that again.

But no one uses the full title anyway. Enerprise is Enterprise not ST:E. Next Gen isn't ST:TNG. Voyager isn't ST:Voyager.
