If Picard doesn't talk about Beverely or Wesley Crusher will it be a mistake?

I was able to download the script from Picard. Here's how it goes down!

RIKER: Jean Luc! What are you doing here? It's been ages.
PICARD: Will, I needed to talk to you.... Do you remember Beverly?
RIKER: Yes.
PICARD: Do you remember Wesley?
RIKER: Yes.
PICARD: Do you remember Geordi?
RIKER: Yes.
PICARD: Data? Worf? Lwaxana? Mr. Holm? Barclay? Hugh? 7? ...
[Riker nods in agreement as Jean Luc lists off 100 characters from TNG... except for 7.]
RIKER: What do you want, Jean Luc?
PICARD: Oh yes, sorry. The Irumodic Syndrome makes me randomly list off people from my distant past without context. Anyway, I'm here to ask you about something completely different.

Another thing is if he doesn't talk about his past what in the world will he talk about. Is it just going to be all plot talk? Is he going to talk in generalities about "the old days."

Jason

I assume he'll interact with the new characters on the new show the way he talked to the old characters on the old show: a mixture of exposition, banter, humor, debates, emotional confrontations, and other character bits. Why worry that the dialogue will only consist of plot talk just because he's dealing with a different set of characters?

I just want them to all randomly run into each other at the same time in a turbolift, joke about who passed gas, then Jean-Luc steps off, they wave goodbye, and the adventure continues as Jean-Luc snickers that it was totally him who cut the cheese.

Sounds great. Maybe at the end of the season 2 they all decide to move to the vineyard and live with Picard. Together they decide to make a pact to never leaver each other again. Also they able to bring Data back as well with the right tech. Wesley even moves in and Tasha turns out is brought back to life by Q and she is reunited with them as well.

You missed the part wear he sniffs it like he sniffs a glass of Chateau Picard

I expect him to have one photo of her in his home, and at one point he takes a long look at it but nothing else is said.

I don't see a reason why. 20 years is a long time, and it could have the potential to be too self-referring as to not allow the actual story progress forward.

I think it is a neutral point but could potential be very bad writing if it takes away from the rest of the story just to reminisce.

If the franchise is a continuing saga then it has to have a backstory and rules in place. Being true to established backstory, within reason and not making it apocryphal, is not reminiscing either. They needn't be pedantic about every detail (I didn't care as much about Chekov not being in TWOK as many big fans of the time and there are reasonable ways to explain that potential plot hole with too). Roddenberry did have certain ideals; eschewing them would just turn Trek into a bog standard faceless soulless uninspired space opera. Would be easier to write for and build up, until the same thing happens 20 years from now because everyone gets excited over the name and not the content. Always buy the book because of the cover and not what's in it...
