How will the show treat Seven?

Apologies if there is already a discussion thread about this. Did a scan of the first page, couldn't see one.

I would never call myself a Voyager fan, because I'm really not, but I've always loved each cast of characters on every Trek character. For that reason, when Seven of Nine surprisingly popped up in the Picard trailer, I genuinely lost my mind. I was in a hotel in Plymouth, sharing with two friends (one of whom is a Trekkie, too), and both of us were immediately even more psyched for Picard. As excited as we were for it before, the addition of Seven just seemed to take it up another notch, and I get the feeling that's been the case for a lot of the Star Trek community?

From interviews with Jeri Ryan, it's safe to say that she is not a series regular by any stretch, but it does appear she will be a more significant part of the show than, say, Riker and Troi, who are making smaller appearances. I guess, this has me wondering a number of things:

1) Just how big is her role?
2) Will she appear in a significant number of episodes? (hoping so!)
3) Will the missing time period between the present, and the last time we saw her, be filled in with significant detail?
4) Is she a 'one season and done' character?

Given the huge excitement amongst Trek fans for her being on the show, you've got to assume that if Seven was intended to be a one season character, they may be rethinking that, headed into development of Season 2? If it were me, I'd keep her around. Of course, I have no idea of what the story of the show is, mind!

Perhaps, most importantly, would Picard have the bravery to kill her off? Do we think this is even a possibility? Would VOY fans go into meltdown if that happened, or would they be happy to have seen more of her story following the end of VOY?

I honestly just can't wait for this show, and I'm surprised at how excited the addition of Seven has made me. I'm probably more interested in finding out what's up with her, than I am Picard!

Seven has a following.

Get rid of her and you risk having a significant portion of the audience dry up (Picard has always struck me as being somewhat bloviating).

So you're saying, no to a big death, or that they'd be silly not to keep her involved in the second season?

Pretty much. (She's already "died" on Voyager. Why kill her AGAIN in S1? )

She's a foil for Picard. She can get in his face. She can tell him things that the Sirena crew can't (or won't).

Just as many (if not more) people are tuning in to see HER as they are to see Picard.

Well if the rumours of The Doctor being in season 2 are true, I don’t think they’ll kill her off. They’ll want the dynamic between the two.

There's still the business with the Borg.

I hate to be cynical, but part of me thinks Seven is being brought in as a "backup protagonist" to get old fans interested in case Sir Patrick dies and they still have more story they want to tell.

The show is called Star Trek: PICARD.

There's still THAT issue to contend with should Sir Patrick kick the bucket during production.

They could just rename it Star Trek: Seven of Nine and keep the remainder of the main cast with her taking over as captain.

If the show is a smash hit, I don't think they'll let a little thing like Sir Patrick's death dissuade them from finding some way to continue the existing story as much as is feasible.

Controversial move given that she's often been accused of "taking over" Voyager.

When Clark Kent moved to Metropolis on Smallville, he was given the nickname "Smallville".

Worse comes to worst, they could rename the ship "Picard" and go on from there.

Y’know, that’s precisely why I was sure they WEREN’T going to call it Picard. But here we are...

Ehh...I think the anti-Seven fervor has long since died down. She's probably the single most popular Berman-era character now who wasn't on TNG, which is part of why they included her.

I mean, the "old skool" VOY fans who hated Seven already were probably upset that Picard is going to meet with her, and not Janeway. They're clearly not afraid of making this contingent upset.

After the second or third season, I think the new cast would probably be popular enough to carry the show. But if something tragic happened now, I think CBS would want to have an established character/actor waiting in the wings to take a more prominent role to keep the oldsters tuning in.

Let's not bury Stewart yet, the series hasn't even aired and many are afraid he won't be around much longer.

He's only 79 years young. Who knows, this new series might be longer than 7 seasons of TNG. I doubt it but who knows? If it's a massive hit and it just keeps on going.

I thought they said 3 years 10 episodes each.

In terms of 7, they already gave her some emotions, let the hair down, and she's a lot more comfortable based on the trailers so far. I would say they are treating her really well. Bringing her back just to kill her would upset quite a lot of people I think.

For all we know, Stewart might do four (he's said in interviews that the story is much bigger than he imagined).

I can't see it going seven seasons (this isn't like Discovery where they're zooming around fighting the alien of the week).

Yeah, I’m not anticipating her dying, although I am curious as to how VOY fans would feel about such a thing happening. One would assume she’s untouchable, but you never know?

One thing is for sure. No matter how they treat or develop the character....approximately 50% of the fans will lose their minds and hate it.

I think their is a 60% chance that most fans will disagree with this because they think it's actually 80% that most fans will loose their mind but only 20% of them will admit it.

I think Dahj is related to Picard in some way. If something happens to Patrick Stewart, then Star Trek: Picard can continue, if that turns out to be the case.

They left it wide-open at the end of VOY as to where and how Seven could explore humanity (or not explore it) after the series.
