You guys aren't wrong. And honestly, the likelihood of it happening are slim to none, unless Burton filmed a secret cameo. I'm not holding my breath on that. Just a thought.

None of us knew that Seven was going to be in this, until she appeared in a trailer. I think it's very possible that Burton could film an appearance without us knowing. Doesn't mean I think he did, mind.

Personally, I'd be all for killing him in that attack. The idea of him losing his life due to androids/synth's feels very tragic, given his relationship with Data, and would add some weight to this show. It would be easier to do it offscreen, and given we haven't seen the character in 18 years, I don't think they should feel a need to explicitly show him dying, but I must be honest and say that offscreen deaths of big characters always just leave me feeling down. I can accept them doing it, it will just leave a bad taste, I think. And that's purely because I'm such a big fan of proper closure, I guess.

Yeah, I noticed the Disco era ships too. It was definitely weird. The production team couldn't CGI some late TNG era ships, seriously? And it's not like they have to design new ship classes from scratch. I am sure there are computer models of the Prometheus, Vesta, Odyssey or even a Galaxy class, still around somewhere that they could have used. Heck Star trek Online has a bunch of ship models that they could have borrowed.

Hell, there have been GREAT CGI models of the original 1701 Constitution Class; but that didn't stop Kutzman and Co. from still giving it a full makeover. Why do you think the 33+ year old TNG/ILM Film ship models will get a pass?

Given Hugh was close to Geordi and Hugh is in the show, I fully expect Geordi to be mentioned at some point. Dead or otherwise. Although with the comic showing him at Mars in charge of the Utopia Planitia fleet and this short trek showing Mars being bombarded by synths, it doesn't look good for Geordi...

I'm with you. I don't think its necessary to be seen but some might find it cheap. It would certainly be more effective if it were onscreen. And besides, if it did happen, regardless of it was on or offscreen, rarely is anyone from Star Trek really dead.

I'd assume that Patrick Stewart would've told him long ago, if the character was indeed being killed off. Hell, I think they were having dinner together with Spiner only two months ago at DST...

I definitely don't want Geordi -- or any other character whose actor is still alive -- dying off-screen. If the death serves the story, then fine, kill away. But please try to bring the actor back to film something.

I'm fine with getting updated versions of the TNG era ships. But this Short Trek did not do that. It just recycled Disco era ships.

You assume that (a) Burton wasn't contacted, and (b) he cares. Remember, to most actors these are just jobs, and jobs they may not have even enjoyed.

Geordi's death would have a huge impact on Picard, and also Hugh. It creates tension and conflict, particularly if Picard feels somehow responsible for the attack on Mars.

I'd genuinely forgotten that we didn't know about Spiner and co., either. How they managed all of this, is a credit to them.

Not if the only intent is to kill him off. We have to remember that this series is 15 years after the attack on Mars. If they did decide to kill Geordi and Burton does appear, it'll likely be little more than a flashback or a recording. The power of all of the sudden seeing Geordi just to kill him off is going to affect viewers either by drawing them in or pushing them away. If it happens (and it is still a huge if), its a bold move.

It helped establish Mars did have an operational shipyard (Not everyone watching will know that it was stated there was one in previous series).

For many actors it is just a job, but from interviews with Burton I know he's passionate about his character and Star Trek. I think he'd be fine with his character being killed if it's meaningful to Trek's story and not just done for shock value.

Also, when the hell it the Federation ever going to learn to have a defense fleet in sector 001? This goes back to the Xindi weapon days. Somehow though, in Voyager Endgame, they had a bunch ships converge on the transwarp aperture near earth. Looks like back to old no fleet around days now.

To be fare though, we don't now what the resistance to the Synth ships was (if any), guess we will find out soon!
