Is there any way to make Marvel's history work in the MCU? With Namor the Submariner fighting the original human torch during the days of the SSR?

 

You could always reveal that there were other heroes that weren't as well known. They already did it with Ant-man and Captain Marvel. But there is a danger of coming off as repeating yourself. And I doubt Marvel wants to introduce the original Human Torch and the FF Human Torch in competing time periods.

 

I think the MCU could easily do an Invaders movie. It would be a great way to bring Evans back.

 

They don't have full rights to Hulk???

 

Universal has distribution rights to Hulk movies, which is part of why marvel hasn't made a Hulk movie since TIH.

It is kinda weird that it was a Marvel movie, but then it isn't, huh?

 

There are other reasons too, such as the low(ish) box office performance, and the fact that Banner had to be recast.

In fact I think the movie actually lost money. It made $263,427,551 worldwide with a production budget of $150 million, though it probably was expected to under-perform a bit given that it had to deal with the stench of the Ang Lee version that came before.

 

Effectively, making a Hulk movie under the current situation would mean Universal automatically gets a piece of the financial pie. If TIH had been more successful, marvel might not care, but since it wasn't and most of their other movies were, they're not interested in sharing.

 

The policy up till now was to have Hulk team up with other characters like in Ragnarok.
Because they can use the character in anything but Hulk titled movies.
That way they could Pepper his story across multiple movies and develop him.

If they have distributor rights now as well, they could make a Hulk stand alone, but I‘d rather expect more team-up movies where he shares title billing, e.g. Hulk vs Wolverine

 

Most of the WWII era stuff we've gotten has been pretty tightly focused on Captain America and Peggy Carter, so I don't think it would be that hard to add more heroes to the era.
Nice to see some activity on this thread lately, for a while this thread was kind of slow, and with tons of people constantly ripping on the MCU in other threads, I was starting to wonder if I was the only person left here that actually likes the MCU stuff.

I would love to see an Invaders movie with Namor, the Torch and the Isaiah Bradley Captain America.

That is disappointing and a little worrisome. Derrickson seemed to have a clear vision for the sequel speculatively with (Nightmare) and I liked what he talked about making it a scary film (within the realm of the MCU, of course). Hopefully whoever replaces him is similar in fashion.

 

He will be remaining on as executive producer, so hopefully his vision for the thing will be somewhat retained, if not entirely.

 

Marvel's history has never truly fit with the MCU, so you would end up seeing a number of big changes to the basic concepts and/or characters. Then, there's the idea of a Human Torch--there was one on display at the World's Fair in Captain America: The First Avenger, but at no time during MCU Cap's WW2 adventures, was there even a throwaway reference to a Torch being a "living", active being in the world, so something so...fantastic would need to be explained, along with why he was never around to be involved in any of the major, Cap-oriented operations against the Red Skull/Hydra--which were presented as the greatest threat to the world...

It would be rather awkward to force fit "new" history/flashbacks into Cap's, when his appeared to be a series of tightly structured events.

Aside from a cameo or two in the Disney+ Falcon/Winter Soldier series, I've not heard Evans say he wanted to or will return to the role of young Rogers.

 

I doubt it. Directors that resign over "creative differences" tend not to stick around to give more creative input. The EP credit is probably just a contractual thing he gets regardless and doesn't have to actually *do* anything, nor would he be allowed to if he were even inclined to. Hollywood can be weird like that.

How much do we want to bet that this has something to do with integrating the movie with 'WandaVision'?
