Spoilers Picard Prequel "Children of Mars"

This doesn't rule out the Romulans completely. Maybe it was the Romulans who reprogrammed them, maybe they worked willingly with the Romulans. We won't know until the show airs.

However, the kite ships were new
Maybe not, part of model seem to made out of the S31 Drones seen in DSC Season 2. So a kitbash so to speak. New design, old elements. The glowy bits coming out the rear, sorta look like S31 nacelles too.

So...grade school still sucks in the future...

And why go to a physical location at all when you could just as easily sit at a desk at home and swipe left?

The Mars tragedy occurs on First Contact Day. Utterly evil.

Kinda makes Nero's "reason" for vacuumnig Vulcan a bit.. crap? as in.. the Feds were trying FOR YEARS to evacuate people... what else do you want?
He just lost his entire world and you expect rationality? That's not how it works in humans, much less an alien race who have emotions that "run deeply" in their race.

Humans are social creatures.

I don't get why everyone is worried about there being no new ships. New ships = new merchandise = money.

In universe the excelsior and mirandas would be over 100 years old at this point. Considering they were beginning to be decommissioned in the 2360's and 70's it would make sense that none are on active duty 20 years later.

They're tugs, we see them pulling the Enterprise in the DSC Season 2 premier.
It doesn't have a class name.

I always thought the tugs from "Brother" were Ptolemy class, and that the reason we didn't see them up close was because TPTB didn't want to have to get permission from Franz Joseph's estate (the Ptolemy comes from the TOS Tech Manual he wrote).

Nope. They were always the ships you see here in this Short Trek. Eaglemoss is even making an upcoming model of them.

We just watched the short a little while ago, and I enjoyed it overall. A nice little glimpse at life in the Picard era, and the stuff with the attack gave us some interesting hints about Picard.
Maybe the synths being responsible for the attack is why the androids we see in the Picard trailer appear to be locked up somewhere.

Lol, nothing unsettling about that. It just means in the future, humans will remain humans, not some brainwashed, manipulated, automatons without a soul.
Maybe bullying is "bad", but you can't be human without having both "bad" and "good"

That goes without saying. However what protections would exist in the future to keep childhood development safe? No kid deserves bullying ever. "Children of Mars" at least focuses on a positive outcome from joined loss and powerlessness. The handholding shot is a great start.

Human nature will never change. Bullies will always exist.

I would think the schools would have Counselors to help kids deal with their issues. And AI to track problematic behavior and alert mental health professionals.

Nope. Eaglemoss has the model and has shown it off. It's just a kitbash of Hoover and Malachowski parts, plus a new bit between the pylons.

i was pretty irked by the appearance of these ships and the shuttlecraft (they went through the effort to modify it, they could've gone a little further)

The shuttlecraft is the easiest to explain -- it's a school bus. Why would they buy anything fancy if it's only going to be hopping a couple miles to and from the school? Might as well use a Starfleet surplus vehicle.

After the direction They decided to go in with the DISCOVERY starships, I've got a feeling we're not going to see much of anything in the way of 'Berman' Era starships in PICARD.
They'll probably be going with all new SpFx assets with barely a glance of a Galaxy or anything else that has come before.

It's pretty obvious to me that They're just not really interested in continuing the the 'look' of anything previously seen in Trek.
:sigh:
Lol - when some TOS fans brought up the fact ST: D never used any of the existing external ship designs or esthetics from TOS, we were told "So what? It's not 1966 anymore."

So for all the TNG era fans, welcome. "It's not 1987 anymore." :rommie:;)
