Wait for a reputable source. I’ve seen this floating around a few days but always clickbait sites.

Not uncommon any more. They probably have an idea where they want to go to finish the story and know they need at least one more season. Especially with 12-15 episode seasons.

You're assuming there is a "end". There is nothing saying CBS couldn't keep Discovery going as long as it's being watched, blu-rays are selling, etc. Even if actors leave they could rotate new ones in as the focus. Since seasons are short there doesn't have to be a set number of seasons. Only with Picard has there been talk about it being limited to just a few. There has been no talk regarding that with Discovery last time I checked.

While I have no reason to doubt there will be a fourth season, or even that they would announce it before the third premieres, it does seem a bit odd to announce a fourth season before the third season's premiere date has been announced.

I'm pretty sure that conventional contracts for actors involve their pay increasing more rapidly than inflation in each year of production, which makes the series progressively more and more expensive. This mean there's a point where studios prefer to cut and run rather than milk even a stable franchise.

I think Discovery would be fundamentally untenable as a show without SMG in the lead role - despite the issues that many people have with Michael as a character. She's just too central to the cast for them to retool. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else exits for the fourth season though.

OK, not an "end" so much, but more story than they can do in S3. S3 could end with a nice cliffhanger.

Sigh. “Active Development” isn’t a green light. I’m sure it WILL be in time but this isn’t really anything.

The news sounds promising. I wonder what the anti-DSC crowd (and their endless 'Discovery is doomed' angle) will think?

They'll probably simply continue their "the show is failing, will be canceled next season" narrative - their audience eats it up like candy, after all. (Unfortunately.)

A lot of shows get renewed prior to the commencement of a new season. It often generates buzz and lets viewers know that they aren’t going to start watching a show and then it be cancelled without a resolution.

Despite what all the Disco haters say, the show is going well and has been huge success. One of the top 3 most streamed tv shows worldwide last year. It’ll continue to be the flagship Trek show for the foreseeable future.

As I’ve said in one of the other threads, I genuinely expect Discovery to run for a full 7 seasons, like traditional Trek shows. It may not air a season every year, like the old days, especially when they have a full roster of different Trek shows to cover a year, but it’ll still reach that 7 seasons milestone. As we’ve seen so far, each season so far hasn’t aired year fo date (S1- late 2017 to early 2018. S2- early 2019. S3- mid 2020.).

There has to come a point in time where their audience stops lapping up all the bullshit. People hate something? That's their right. But hating it so much that you create videos about how much (you believe) it sucks and honestly give hope to people who feel the same just so you can get paid? That's a very manipulative relationship.

That is Youtube in a nutshell, its an echo chamber where you will always be able to find someone who pretends to agree with you no matter what the issue may be.

Which is why I avoid the place as much as possible.

Nah, their audience thrives on it all, they WANT these videos to confirm their own views. The comments get more vile with each video. The worst part is that people who aren't as invested in the fandom and are more casual fans run into those Youtubers and think their videos are genuine news/legit sources of information due to the Youtuber's rather ingenious tactic of naming actual true facts first and then continue with unfounded rumors that start with "allegedly", "according to sources" (which are never named, of course) and "we have learned that" that always promise doom and gloom, as do the titles of their videos that usually distort what someone involved with the show said. It's really perfectly done propaganda - and they repeat it. The same "rumors" they used against Discovery (test audiences didn't like it so it had to be changed, the action figure sellers didn't like the design of the ships and demanded changes, etc etc) are now being used against PIC. The VERY SAME. But their audiences neither notice nor care - they WANT to hear that the shows are all going to fail, and the Youtubers know this will give them clicks and therefore money, so, they're only too happy to produce an endless supply. (They occasionally run out of ideas tho, so, it's only natural that some of the previous propaganda gets re-hashed.)

It’s great that DSC is apparently getting a fourth season (I’m a big fan of the show) but do we have any idea when we might get to see the third season?

It's all just propaganda. CBS knows DSC is a horrific failure and literall nobody likes or watches the show, but they must continue to perpetuate the lies that it is successful because if they keep renewing it, it will make people believe that it must be good.

    Makes sense, right?
