Frasier revival

That is exactly what is happening. ViacomCBS is pulling shows as contracts expire so as to build up All Access' library.

Edit: You might be thinking of The Office, which was an NBC-produced show and will be Peacock-exclusive.

I agree, it's clear what they are doing.

And It's not. I can't stand The Office or Friends so I don't give a damn if they became exclusive, but I thought it was Frasier and Psych on Peacock. Guess not. I've watched it plenty the last few winters to make up for it losing it's everywhere streaming rights.

Royalties =/= distribution and streaming rights. Especially when it comes to shows that were produced during the pre-streaming era. If ViacomCBS wants to put a show that it owns on its own service after prior arrangements expire, that is well within the company's rights.

Yeah, I'm talking about ownership of the TV shows or movies, not this BS.

"Shows reaching the 100 episode landmark milestone became ripe for distribution, and the rich financial rewards that came with it. These payments have gone to creators, powerful stars, and anyone else who owned a piece of the “backend.” For a hit show, such distribution payouts could dwarf the fees earned during the early years of a show’s run".

Viacom or any other company can do whatever they want with series they wholly own. Full ownership is rare these days, now major actors, producers, production companies etc. all own a piece of their TV shows and movies. Creators, stars and producers can earn more from a distribution deal (which includes streaming and DVD/Blu-ray sales) than they did when the series or movie was first broadcast. Ownership does not "expire" like it used to a generation ago.

This is a fact, not a point for debate.

"He’s passed the radio show. He might be an art dealer he might be a professor. We don’t know yet."

Anyway, im doing a rewatch right now of the first season... how nice, its been some time.

I do like the idea of him being a professor.

I don't like the idea that they want to make a show without having an actual idea behind the show.

I love Frasier but what I loved was the cast and that series. It will never be the same. They ended on a high, why spoil it?

Anyway, can't wait for 'Star Trek Picard'.

One of the ideas that Kelsey has been leaning towards, according to various interviews, is that his son is now living with him, but has taken after Marty, rather than him.

Thats a good idea... hehe.. could be funny=)

I'm not sure if Frasier could work without the stellar supporting cast.

Farsier/Grammer himself was a riot but Niles, Daphne, Roz and Martin really completed the show and came into their own throughout the seasons. I am highly doubtful that lightning can strike so many times for a single character (it is rare that a spinoff show works that well after it comes out of a massively popular show) but being a big Frasier fan i will of course tune in out of curiousity and hope for the best.

I'd love the new show to continue to do farce, also. Part of what makes Frasier so hysterical is that he's supported by a fantastic cast that are just as good of actors as Grammar is.

Honestly I'd prefer to see a new show centered around Niles and Daphne, and have Frasier be a supporting character. Although I'm sure Kelsey wouldn't be keen on that.

Do you remember how you felt about a Frasier spinoff from Cheers?

But it's awesome.:vulcan:

Well good for you.

Having been a kid when it was on and being from Massachusetts it's one of the shows I just can't get into. Same with Wings. I lived on Nantucket, the Wings Nantucket might as well be a Moon base because that's how close in reality it is to actual Nantucket.

Yeah, so do I. I think it fits naturally in with what the character could be doing given his experience. A psychiatrist and former radio show host who later in life becomes a Professor. He'd have very interesting stories to tell his students.

Don't think i'm old enough or didn't care enough at the time. Without the internet these things were an accidental discovery on TV rather than reading about it.
Let's see.... I watched 'Cheers' first but I think when I really got into watching Cheers a few years later I was already a fan of the Frasier series or I hadn't made a strong connection between them. Frasier wasn't the front and center of Cheers though. Later he was a more prominent character but the real relevance he held for me was from his own series which i loved more than Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends. To me it was a show that remained consistently good throughout it's run and a large part of that was the cast. I don't feel there is any unfinished business here in terms or story or recapturing quality.
For every Frasier there is a 'Tortellis'
