Belli didn't appear to be that menacing looks wise is my only condemnation! When his boils and whipple skin turned up I was feeling worried but then I was a kid myself back then! :sigh:

I always thought they were much farther out than 12 light years from Earth. I guess the ships were slower than I thought; Not. :rommie:

Marauders that were dressed in shower curtains with boils and spaghetti features that brought such discord to that area of space!

It's funny, because I'll still take ATCSL over any average episode of any of the other series.

Enh . . . I like Voyager quite a bit. In fact, given all the highs and lows of DS9 versus the far greater consistency of VOY, I believe I rank VOY second after Star Trek on my list of franchise installment faves. This week.

Yeah, the two Kirk freakouts were egregious. I don't know what Bill and the director were thinking there. It does provide a nice contrast when Kirk later vanquishes his "beast" and comes off like a total bada$$ (along with Spock) in facing down Gorgan, but . . . yeah. As for the child actors, Hundley and Pamelyn Ferdin were experienced and, I thought, very good. Perhaps that was the direction too. And the fact that you feel that Belli couldn't act in what I believe was a greenscreen situation doesn't have any bearing on his status or abilities as a trial lawyer. He was legendary for a reason.

I guess Hundley became an accomplished musician, while Ferdin kind of went off the deep end of the pool.

As awful as the episode is (and I've attacked it as much as anyone has), a line of dialogue from it somehow managed to get the largest typeface of the nine "Galactic Wisdom" quotes in TIME Magazine's new Star Trek: Inside The Most Influential Science-Fiction Series Ever edition.

SPOCK: "Without followers, evil cannot spread."

"Children" has always been my choice for worst of the series, mostly because the children and Gorgon were annoying.

Throughout the decade of the 1970s and well into the 80s, I never voluntarily missed an episode of Star Trek. Literally never. Then one day my sister's husband's father died, and they pulled in the driveway when "Children" was getting to the big scenes about parents dying, and I turned it off to avoid upsetting anyone. I turned an episode of Star Trek off. It was a watershed moment in my life, but it would never have happened with a decent episode. If "The Doomsday Machine" was going to upset someone, I would have been like, "So be it."

I've never gotten the hate for this episode myself! As a kid I wasn't keen on it because of the annoying kids and I think that must be why people hate it SO much! but as an adult I kind of accept it more than I did forty years back and to me it's not that bad! Now have I ever told you what I believe to be the worst episode of season three of Star Trek and the entire series in general? :D

But how can you dislike the episode with this gem dialogue of:

'Brain and Brain! What is Brain?!"
    Perfection.;)

And The Children may have significant moments of overacting, but that opening wideshot of the dead bodies is chilling. The subsequent attempt by Kirk to communicate with the only survivor is so well acted out, despite the rest of the story perhaps becoming silly. The chill of ring a ring a roses with Kirk’s solemn shock, is a great teaser.

It's not The Cloud minders or Spock's Brain don't worry! I'll give you a clue. It has a lady in it that was in A Taste for Armageddon and she has done various voices elsewhere in the series! :techman:
