Contest: ENTER December 2019 Art Challenge — “Best of 2019”

Welcome to the 182nd Trek BBS Fan Art Forum Challenge!

This time I'd like to try something special for the end of the year. As suggested by @Starscape in last month's submission thread, this time we'll be relaxing the whole “only artwork created during the month” rule, as I'd like to see your personal favorite artwork you created during the last year.

So no fixed theme this time around, only something Trek related that you are proud of. It can be something new specifically done for this contest, of course, but it can also be something you did months ago for another contest.

Got any questions or suggestions?

Here are the rules for this month:
  • only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views)
  • your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)

I've always been interested in participating in these, if only I had more time to do projects for them. Now it seems like the perfect opportunity! Now to pick an image...

I have never been apart of this game ever yet I do multiple art things daily,,.. I know- I will post.. my fractal work,.. maths describing almost a three space maybe 2.7 dimensional spaces in the flat screen pixel mapped process. Ok the program is here,..
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/
A free fractal program we are developing,.. on going,, and it just started working even better on my desktop again. So going with the program I have not used in months I was making fractals again and this work took the shape of something trek,,... I was like omg how very random...

So look,..this would be an early submission but woe,,.

In my try’s I created a possible video but I was not accustomed to the interface for animation,.. I saved the settings of the program at this point,. But when flying through the space of the image it was not what I liked,, I would have to spend lots more time to make the video happen,.

I have many fractals from the program here on google drive in folders.. they’re larger like 3-5megabytes

This is the most trek like imagine I have ever done with this program. I did something similar with the fractal explorer program years ago,..

The only Trek art I've done this year are Images that have already been entered here and lost. I'm not wasting energy posting them again. I'll try something new.

Making the video is proving to be a little difficult as I flew into the image thru a layer or so of matter.. besides the render is using 5 different equations for the out come.. I tried changing the order of the equations just switched the last two.. and I got an entirely different image.. what is worse it takes about 1-2 minutes per render or frame of video. I have not solved the motion changing variables for the flight. And..if I do then I would just set my desktop to auto pilot. So stay tuned I guess in the meantime I will start the WIP soon.

Cool challenge. I don't have anything to submit, nothing finished yet, but I'll be watching to see what you all have done.

I am not sure if I have time to enter...though I greatly appreciate the wide-open opportunity given.

I was wondering if the winner for December would consider this as a topic for January:

"Crisis on Infinite Enterprises"

as an homage to DC TV's Crisis (based on the comic maxi series)… what if Star Trek had a similar crisis… what would that look like?

Just a thought...

time is disappearing somewhere .. and to watch and implement the animation tutorials doesn't fit this year ..--- so no animation for the comm badge fractal -- it is on that list of things I want to do -- so yeah I might render a few more at different angles and spaces if time permits we will see.

For clarification....It can be any artwork created in the last year....it doesn't have to be something created for a contest?

I've been pretty happy with several pieces this year, so it's gonna be tough to choose. I'm leaning towards one of my 1940's Enterprise pieces. Decisions...decisions.

Exactly, it doesn't have to be anything created for the contests. Just something you created in 2019. :)

I'm glad so many of you seem to like the idea. Personally I didn't really find time to think about which of my pieces I want to enter or if I want to work on something new.

I was thinking about extending the deadline for this to the end of January, since I guess because of the holidays many of you didn't find time either. Any thoughts on that?

Regarding the deadline, given the broad scope of the entry criteria, I’m not in favor of extending the deadline. If we weren’t able to enter anything from the last year, then yeah. But this is literally the easiest contest to enter I think I’ve ever seen. YMMV of course :)

Shoot, forgot about this with all the usual movement that goes on in December.
After looking at all I've done this year, I've decided to go with the cutaway of Fontana Station as my entry, as it received very positive feedback both here and on social media.

All of my Trek Art from this year has been produced for art challenges and I don't really want to re-enter one of those images. Instead I've decided to use this as an opportunity to return to a previous challenge that I couldn't quite grasp at the time and create something new. So, here's my second chance entry for October's "In Memorium" Challenge:

Please excuse me for quoting out of context. :alienblush:

Cool entries all around! To not stretch this out unnecessarily I'll try to post the voting thread later today. @Think, have you rendered something new or do you want to enter your original piece?

As for the entry I'm going with: I'll enter the Bottoms Up starbase bar piece I originally did for @Finn's March “Celebrations at Starbase” contest; albeit with a slightly altered color scheme. I think out of all the pieces I did this year this one might be my favorite …

I have not rendered in a few weeks so yeah that will have to do as the best at this point. It might take some time when I can allot the time for an animation like I mentioned .. thanks for the inclusion .. :)
