^ If the Episodic films do come back, I'm more than willing to acknowledge that I was wrong, but there is no reason or evidence at this point for me to believe that I'm going to be wrong.
You won't be. Because nostalgia will eventually build for these films, just like it did for the prequels. And folks will want follow-up. In five to ten years, Ridley's career will likely be on the back nine, so she'll be the connective Force character and, who knows, Empress of the galaxy.
You were adamant that the trilogy would end with Rey not being related to anyone, particularly a Skywalker. If you couldn't see that obvious point miles away, I'm not sure there's much stock to be placed in your prediction that there will be no new trilogies.
Rey will be back.

Correct. Disney didn't buy Star Wars to put it on the shelf after three (well, five) cinema outings. When you have something people will gleefully empty their pockets into, you keep it going until it dries up.
Well, here's the thing--Disney Plus is where the real money is. What would you rather have, a bunch of people paying $15-$20 once or twice over a few months, or a bunch of people paying $7 a month every single month in perpetuity?
Is the money being made on Disney Plus, or in the theaters?
Maybe the real money is in the TV shows, which is why Kenobi is going to be a series rather than a movie.

I'm sure Disney would gladly have both.
There are more revenue streams for films than just ticket buyers. They will sell it in perpetuity to content providers, people will buy discs and digital versions, merchandising...

This is the ideal scenario that I was hoping for. Those who have been critical of the sequel trilogy's direction and management will be vindicated, and yet TROS will still be profitable enough to ensure future Star Wars films under a different regime.
Best of both worlds. A fair compromise. Star Wars will continue and hopefully in a better direction if "The Mandalorian" is any indication.

I agree, but then the shows are always going to appeal more to fans whereas the movies are going to bring in more general viewers who might then become fans.
Granted I live in a busy city, but I can’t remember the last time I left the house without seeing at least a few kids wearing some kind of Star Wars t-shirt. Far more of those kids are going to grow up wanting to see the tv shows than if the new movies hadn’t come along to reel them in. Even if the shows are where the money is at, the movies are what you need to keep the franchise elevated as a blockbuster property and bring in new generations of fans. I doubt they’ll be doing it in less than 10 years or so, but i think it’s likely Disney will eventually commit to another big movie lineup just to keep the franchise relevant and inject new life into it.
I honestly don’t get the raging love for the show. It is decent overall, but ultimately disposable. I don’t feel like I know anything more about Star Wars than I did before, and the story is paper thin.
I agree. It’s good, but not great. Thing is, it’s also the first Disney Star Wars that really feels like it was made for existing fans rather than for general audiences, and that alone is enough to make people like it.
Agreed, although I really enjoyed episode 7. Hopefully it continues in that vein..
And sure, Baby Yoda is an extremely popular character with memes. But exactly how many people who like these memes actually watch the show? While I'm sure it's popular, we have no idea how popular as Disney isn't publishing the numbers. I have also noticed a bunch of people on the social medias commenting how they stopped watching after the first few episodes.
Count me in. I got through two episodes before dubbing it the Meh-dalorian.
see paper thin is better than "convoluted" which is what most stories form popular franchises are these days. Convoluted is never appealing.. and is not necessarily the same as complex
Speaking for myself, the big issue with TROS is that it deliberately went in a different direction than TLJ. It was so desperately trying to not be TLJ that it wasn't anything. Granted, I quite enjoyed both TFA and TLJ.
So, if anything, I want more of the current regime's films, and not what felt like a super watered-down film they put out when they want to avoid a TLJ-style controversy.
I think it is a mileage may vary type of situation. I questioned some of the decisions of the sequel trilogy, but I was never bored. I’ve found my mind wandering during parts of The Mandolorian.
It comes across as super safe, designed to offend no one’s sensibilities. Essentially, the Marvel formula.
I've actually been watching the last handful of Mando episodes at work because I don't feel like I'll miss too much if I can't give it my full attention or have to stop it for a bit. Love it or hate the message, at least TLJ said SOMETHING. Outside of the continued Star Wars themes of hope and family being thicker than blood, I'm not sure what TRoS is trying to say. And honestly, I can say the same for Mando.
