I was pretty disappointed that they walked back one of the most interesting parts of TLJ and ran with it in a bullshit direction, but once I got past that I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. Besides, Star Wars wouldn't be what it is without some occasional ridiculous bullshit.

And if we're going by your metric, then I'm 1 for 4, since The Mandalorian doesn't have any Skywalkers.

2 for 4. Solo was excellent but was a casualty of bad press. It wasn't because the movie sucked or was unwatchable. Unlike the Ewok movies.

There's a special place in hell for people who mention the Ewok movies. Right next to the people who talk in theaters.

But barely anything interesting happened in TLJ. Just the death of a villain we barely knew and a few Resistance people dying.

TLJ was a character study and I get that's not necessarily fun for all. I, for one, found the stuff that happened to Rey, Ben and Luke to be some of the most fascinating of the saga. Of course, YMMV.

Because he doesn't actually tell her anything; what he does is get her to confront and admit a truth she'd always known but had willfully ignored and suppressed.

Yes, they added more to it, in a way that completely undermined the point of her parents being junk traders. The point was that to be strong in the Force, you didn't have to come from a famous bloodline, that a powerful Jedi could come from anywhere.

For me, the way the Force was explored in TLJ actually managed to connect with me on a spiritual level, something that very few movies have ever succeeded in doing.

And for what it's worth, most of the criticisms I've heard of TLJ sound exactly like something I would have once said about ESB back in the day.

It’s funny because JJ said in an interview I think last week, that he doesn’t think family/blood should make you strong in the force, but then we have Rey here

That wasn't my only takeaway, there was a lot going on with that reveal.

My wife and I will be well into it in 12 hours. I've got a lot of nervous excitement around this one. Not 100% sure why. I mean, its not the first time this has been the last Star Wars movie. (But, to be fair, I don't think I knew that when I first saw Return of the Jedi and I think I was fairly burnt out with the prequels by Revenge of the Sith. I didn't even see that one opening night. I think I waited until Sunday.)

I just found what they did to Luke to be incredibly cliché. I had a feeling that was where they were leading the character in TFA and hoping there was more to it. They didn’t give him a proper saber battle before they offer him.
