I'm sure. But it's like towards the end of Galileo 7, Uhura said they saved 5 but not who and Kirk is just soooooo relieved, not any concern, yeah, 5 out of 7 ain't bad but it's like he knows the two aren't Spock, Scott, or McCoy.

And Kirk actually does spend some time staring down at the dust from his crew person.

I notice often when a show is willing to make it's audience a bit uncomfortable, it tends to be more effective. Not everything is safe and easy. Just because the officers aren't all in black and playing mournful music doesn't mean no one cared about her.

I was trying to think if the episode would have been better if they hadn't killed her but dramatically it needed to happen. The crushing of the poor innocent yeomen to dust stands out in my memory.
It also made me think when the crewman were scattered around the Enterprise in the dodecahedron thingys that the remaining guys better make sure they didn't slip over and accidentally kill someone.

No, Rojan needed to die. Horribly.

Yes it does stink but character wise we'd never have seen her again anyway where as the other two were series regulars and such! The point of killing Thompson was to show Kirk the power the Kelvans possessed!

I know, right? I've thought about that, too. Sort of like a macabre rendition of the cat in a room full of rocking chairs. :wtf:

Always sounded to me like Shatner was saying Fred!!! I have to really think hard to hear Grant! Plus Fred took out his phaser at the sight of Kras the Klingon which showed his over eagerness and ultimately cost him his life! Poor Fred! :wah:

It's not a nice cosmos out there. You can't police a vast space you don't own or control. You put people in the pokey for a killing and call it murder when you're the police and you're operating in a safe and controlled environment, where killing is an anomaly.

They're in a wild, chaotic environment with no law. They have to work out truces with enemies by the skin of their teeth. Presumably these kinds of fatal bad starts to species relations are exactly what Starfleet and the Federation have learned to deal with over the centuries... as opposed to us, who want retribution for every infraction against us. That's how wars keep going and going.

It's war diplomacy. Not policing. I imagine that when they hammered things out with the Kelvans later, the killing was not forgotten.

Reminds me of one of Q's best quotes: "If you can't handle a little bloody nose once in a while, you better go home and hide under your bed. The universe has wonders to satiate your greatest desires, both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid." (I think I got that right)

I thought of that line while posting.

There's also a crossover opportunity here. Gygax is the other Kelvin that remained unseen. He goes around drawing numbers on each of the groovy packing cubes and gets Rojan and Kirk to play DnD.

Also, are any of those vintage packaging cushioning styrofoam cubes on eBay? Those must fetch a fortune. Better to be safe than sorry, don't crush them!
