GhostBusters 3 is Finally Being Made. (2020 Release)

So, the collection of molds and the coveralls with the "Spengler" name badge on it belonged to... Spengler? Wow!

There was more than one uniform hanging in the closet (one uniform for each Ghostbuster).

What are you basing that on?
thought so too.. mainly because the Ecto is pre-refit.

Mainly it's just a hunch. I just don't think that the sequel hit the cultural zeitgeist the way the original did I think they should just like Halloween only used the first original Halloween

I think RGB is one of the most thoughtful cartoons ever, but for the sake of a clean canon, they might ignore that too

My only problem with Janine, is that I really like her and Louis together, I thought they were a great match.

They were both settling, their chosen ones unavailable....and poor Louis has a habit of being...jumped. (Disclaimer, Young me quite liked GB2 Janine...xD) If those characters were gender flipped there would be levels of squick. Not that it’s hugely there. Tbh I was thinking yesterday, whilst thinking over the reboot, how so few of the jokes in GB and GB2 depend on gender or race or any kind of punching down....despite accusations made.

The other interesting thing is the decision to get out of New York in the new one...Which, given we are in a post 9/11 world, and the originals are literally about religious cults wrecking havoc with the NYC skyline to terrorise its populace (and feed off those negative emotions) is a really interesting way to deal with the elephant in the room. Watchmen is doing the exact same thing.

Ecto-1. The car in GB2 was Ecto-1A. Easily a new car rather than an upgrade of the old. :)

In the trailer they say something like, "No ghosts in 30 years." 30 years is 1989 (GB2) rather than 1984 (GB1). Not proof at all, but curious as to anything that the trailer might specifically say that I missed.

Edited to correct Ecto-stupidity. :)

It’s both ignoring it and not explicitly mentioning it at the same time. The game did the same thing.

Shit I meant 1A, sorry. But where is it said in the movie that Ecto-1A was the same car? (Even though I also always assumed as much.) ...if it was the same car, why would they need to get a new license plate?

The game had slime-blowers in it, and the Vigo painting. Not sure if there was more, but that's two. :)

Edit: Some Googling tells me the 1 and 1A are different cars in real life, for what it's worth. (Which I acknowledge ain't much.)

Overall, I'd say this is the best trailer I've seen in the last few days, and I'm not really even a huge GB fan.

The part where they do Venkman's joke speech as a superdramatic voiceover makes me a little nervous, though. Hopefully this movie doesn't lean so heavily into nostalgia that it starts treating the original GBs as serious superheroes instead of comedy heroes. 2016 may not have tickled all the right funny bones, but that doesn't mean the right way to bring the franchise back is to go all serious and dramatic with it.

The firehouse sign from 2 and Ecto-1A parts are in a glassed in storage area on the left back wall of the firehouse garage.

Yup. And Vigo is in his painting (which ignores the end of the movie, as the painting was replaced by the one of the team) but everything else, including the character models, go back to the original (look at Winston)
The GB2 stuff in the game is just a little more noticeable than the cartoon stuff in the basement (and it’s a good half a decade before that stuff turns up in extreme, and we already know the RGB stuff is from a continuity where these guys are actors in the film)

It mostly ignores GB2. Maybe if Sigourney has been in it (and we could ditch the Venkman gets the girl side plot) it would have rolled differently.

It is possible to argue the cartoony version on PSP, Wii, PS2 is more in continuity with GB2, because at least there you have Janines hair xD

And Egon adopts? I can see that.

I can't. And the trailer implies that the girl with the glasses is Egon's granddaughter.

My only problem with Janine, is that I really like her and Louis together, I thought they were a great match.

They weren't, and fans don't like them together, despite it being official canon. Most likely, she and Egon got back together, got hitched, had kids, and those kids had a daughter, who seems (to me) to be the girl with the glasses.

No way she's a granddaughter. Math doesn't work. She's a teenager meaning she was born in, we'll say 2005, for her to be granddaughter that would mean her parents would've had to be born in the 1980s. Egon didn't have kids so unless were playing a card that said he had a family or illegitimate children during the original movies.... She has to be daughter her fathered late in life. 30 years isn't enough time to span TWO generations.

. I mean even regular dialogue would be interrupted by jokes.. the jokes didn't flow naturally. Like they'd be talking about university stuff and make a WonTon soup joke mid sentence.

Yeah, that was my primary worry when I first heard the director was attached to doing a GB movie. I'm just not a fan of that type of humor. Nothing against the women, but the fact that the cast had also previously done many movies with this type of humor told me a lot about what kind of movie we'd be getting.

The mother is Egon’s daughter and her kids are his grandchildren. They trailer made that pretty clear. The mom looks like she could be in her 30s and Egon could have had a child between GB and GB2.

It’s entirely possible that this girl is his daughter and he used her in his experiments.
