Welcome to the 181st Trek BBS Fan Art Forum Challenge! As suggested by @Soran77, the new contest theme is “What The Trek?” — we want to see your best Trek mashups with period films/TV shows, for examples Game of Thrones / Braveheart / Vikings / Spartacus and the like ... But only themes from the past, no TV or movies set after the 1600s. It can be fiction or fact. Got any questions or suggestions? As we are rather late in the month with this contest, I'd be glad to grant anyone more time should they ask for it. I'm looking forward to your ideas! Have fun! Here are the rules (from the Art Challenge Guidelines): the artwork you submit should be created during the month of the challenge only one final image can be submitted (although it may contain multiple views) your final entry should be posted in this thread (although dedicated WIP threads are appreciated)
Just for clarification, because three of those examples are specifically set before the 1600s, is the restriction on TV/movies set before or after the 1600s?
While this doesn’t seem to be a direct mashup with any period piece/fantasy show or movie if I‘m not mistake, it would work for me personally, because it‘s using mythological elements from the past. And because it‘s a very cool concept.
I've been going backwards and forwards on this idea and how to implement it... part of the reason why it's a touch late.
^ Nice idea! I‘m still working on an entry and hope to finish it later today. What about others? Is anyone else working on something and needs more time?
Here's my entry: It's a nod to the wonderful Netflix version of the fantasy animated show She-Ra and the Princesses of Power … I leave this open for other possible submissions and post the voting thread tomorrow evening.
OK I was still contemplating how to enter but that just blows me away, Michael. Hot damn that is gorgeous...
Thanks for the kind words! I'm rather pleased with how it turned out myself. Too bad you didn't enter, though. I wish we were able to breath a little more life into these contests. That's the second contest in a row with only two participants. Oh well, I'm welcoming any suggestions and ideas to raise these numbers. If no-one enters in the next couple of hours I will up the voting thread later today.
Yeah I know, november was hectic and I had no time to work on anything. Moving's a bitch but hey, perhaps I can get something done this month...
It seems to go through cycles of low participation to high participation. I’d just let it be and keep doing the contests. There will be more participation eventually...
Another great entry @Michael Could relaxing the "only artwork created during the month" rule raise the number of entries? Maybe change it to include "artwork that hasn't been entered into TrekBBS art contest before". It's not quite as fair, but if it raises interest...
Better late then never, I guess: here's the voting thread. I know exactly how you feel. It's getting harder and harder for me to find time to do anything creative. Yeah, I keep telling that myself as well. We just have to remain hopeful that eventually it becomes more lively in here again. Thank you, Starscape! It's certainly something we could try in future contests. In my mind the idea behind the contests is to inspire us to get creative and work on something new. So I wouldn't want it to be a permanent change to the contest rules, but certainly something we could do as a kind of special edition art contest. Another idea could be to extend the submission phase to two months instead of one.
