Love Trek but I am not liberal.. so maybe that's it. I don't believe the government should do everything for everyone.. and how do you all plan to pay for it.

And that's the error. It's not "inclusion for inclusion's sake." It is expanding to include has many people as possible in a potential audience and have heroes for them to enjoy and identify with, as most white guys have had for decades now.
That's not pandering; that's good business.

I am also not a liberal, but consider myself a realist, so while Trek's ideals appeal to me, I just don't find them realistic. If we ever reach a point in human history where scarcity is annihilated, I don't think there will be any purpose to conservatism.I am also curious - are you psychic? How else would you know someone's unstated reasons for including a particular actor? It's certainly not a part of the story.
Is having white male characters pandering to white male viewers?
You’re trying to question why there would be characters who are women or different races. But that’s how real life is unless you live in some isolated area. They aren’t there for the sake of diversity, they’re there because they live there. Media is supposed to be a reflection of real life to some degree, that’s how we’re able to relate to characters, so there has been a push to make media more like real life. You go to any job, any store, any place where there are a lot of people and you’ll see people of different races, genders, and sexualities working, shopping and doing their own thing. Why would a galaxy far, far away be different with the exception of also having other species and droids as well?
Spock was a main character as far as Star Trek goes. So is Kira, Dax, Quark, Data, Worf, T’Pol, Phlox, Odo, the Doctor, and arguably 7 of 9.

Hammerhead let the fame get to him, had drug problems, and was notoriously hard to work with. He was originally supposed to have a lead part in Against All Odds, but had to be removed from the role after he made some extremely speceisist comments to Rachel Ward, he was force-ably removed from the set, and Jeff Bridges was called in to replace him. Supposedly all the previous filmed scenes were destroyed, except for a scoring-roll that may still be owned by Phil Collins.
Apart from a very minor role as an overgrown trilobite in Star Trek: The Search For Spock, offers came rarely to Hammerhead, even after a very public press conference in which he announced he was born again Christian while promoting his autobiography "More Than An Action Figure." George Lucas was reportedly interested in hiring him for a major role in The Phantom Menace when rumors began to be confirmed that Hammerhead had become involved in hardcore pornography, and indeed was one of the early pioneers of the industry on the internet.
At least in the prequels, Yoda is a main character. Especially in Clone Wars. You also have Chewie and the droids. The Mandalorian has a pretty major non-human character that I won’t name for the sake of spoilers. Rebels had Hera and Thrawn. I would argue that his efforts to sway Han in ANH to not run from the fight could be considered agency.
