[Rumor] The complete Saga 4K Bluray box set in the works

I get not upgrading to 4k because of the cost (I won't until I have to), but I would have thought you'd at least upgraded to DVD by now, DVD players and discs are dirt cheap. :bolian:
I have DVD player (it's bundled with my VHS player). I just enjoy my VHS too. So, I use both.

Again, I don't have this need for better graphics. Thus far, no one has really demonstrated the appeal of 4K to me.

To each his own, man. No judgment on this part. My wife and I got married a few years back. We didn't need to upgrade, but we got a nice gift card we put towards a new TV. And my parents bought us a UHD player last year. Our blu-ray player was about at an end.

Oh, I get that. I still had a flip phone until about 3 years ago. Drove a teen client of mine nuts. It was kind of funny.

But, I don't know what I am missing out on that makes 4K appealing...:shrug:I'm not trying to be obtuse or stick in the mud. I'm glad to finally have a smart phone (my wife clings to her flip though) and do some streaming stuff. But, quality is not high on my list. Like, I watch YT videos at 240 or 360. I play on an X-Box 360.

Again, if someone can explain the appeal then I can plan it all out. Thus far it seems like a lot of money for not a lot of benefit...

For me, the draw is the picture and audio quality. Until 8K (and I'm really going to need convincing on THAT), it is as close as you can get to the cinema from the comfort of your own home.

I guess that's a line I don't need to cross at this point. I never did understand the cinema experience at home appeal.

I'm all about replicating the cinematic experience at home (to a reasonable degree). To me, movies are supposed to be big, immersive experiences. I want to feel like I'm watching my very own private screening of a 35mm projection. Watching something at low resolution or low size severely detracts from that experience. It's like going to an art museum and finding that all the big, beautiful, detailed paintings have been replaced with 8x5" prints. Cinema is a visual medium, so the visuals should be presented well, with good color quality and a high level of detail. One time I got a movie that included both DVD and blu-ray, and I accidentally put in the DVD instead of the blu-ray. I was absolutely appalled at the garbage picture quality, and was about to take the movie back and demand a refund, until I realized what happened.

That being said, I'm perfectly fine with blu-ray for the time being, until such time as my regular HD stuff is on the fritz and it's time to replace anyway, and 4K becomes really cheap. With films shot in 35mm, it's arguable whether going from 1080p up to 4K pulls out any additional detail that's realistically perceptible to the human eye.

I'm a cinephile. I love going and seeing movies. As I knew we would be starting a family, I knew it would be harder to get out to the theater. Having the best experience I can at home helps me be okay with it. But that's just me!

So these 4k version were done by George (I assume that's what he means by Lucas, not the company)

What the what?!?

I just watched the D+ version of the Greedo scene. I-I don't know what happened there. There is an additional shot of Greedo (which is a really bad zoom in of another shot, I believe) after Han's "Yes, I'll bet you have" with a non-subtitled line (almost like Greedo is cursing at Han) and then they still shoot at the same time. For half a second, I thought they restored Han shooting first. Then I watched it a second time.

Why did they need to change it yet again?!? Its just jarring.

Edit: Link to an article where you can see it yourself.

Second Edit: At the very least, the Fox logo has been restored to the movies released under the Fox banner. That's a bonus.

Ask George he apparently did this edit too.

Dude stopped returning my phone calls.

Seriously, I know. And typically, I've been okay with the changes to the movies over the years. I think I just thought we were done with all of this. And then... this. Oh well. What can you do?

I find it interesting that the Fox logo is back on ESB and ROTJ.

Could it be an oversight? In the current non-4k digital releases, only ANH has the Fox logo.

Not just ESB and ROTJ, but the prequels too. They might not have updated the current digital files outside of the Disney+ releases. I imagine they'll propagate down eventually, but I would imagine that a lot more resources went into the Disney+ launch at the moment then they care about the digital download releases.

The reason the Fox logo was only on ANH with the most recent releases was because Fox still owned the distribution rights to ANH, not the other 2.

But Disney owns Fox now, so I guess that isn't an issue.

I’m just glad they readded them. I have the blu-ray releases but if I was ever in a SW fix and traveling, I went without them. One would think it’s a minor thing and it really is, but that theme is so engrained from years of watching Star Wars, without it, it just seems weird.

Google "Maclunckey".
Yeah, but as the screenshotted thread from Pablo above indicates, this 4K version was made after the blu-rays for the abortive 3D rerelease (of which only TPM was actually done), but before the Disney buyout. I'd been under the impression that some of the changes in the blu-rays had been made for the 3D conversion (the extra rocks in front of R2 when he's hiding from the sand people, for instance), but either I was misinformed or the process was ongoing when the blu rays were released.

Also, apparently, "maclunkey" is a known phrase of Huttese that means "this is the end of you," and Sebulba said it in TPM when threatening Anakin before the podrace. Not that that makes the affect on the pacing any more forgivable.
