[Rumor] The complete Saga 4K Bluray box set in the works

I actually don't have a problem with any of those, especially Ian McDiarmid's replacing the original Emperor, because McDiarmid rules! My big beef with the Hayden Christensen change isn't the change itself, but the fact he's wearing white Jedi robes (which we NEVER see him wear in Episodes II and III!)

I have the feeling that if Lucas had at least tried to age Hayden up - given him a haircut to match Shaw's, for instance - most of the objections would disappear. The idea was supposedly to see Anakin the last time he was himself/a Jedi; it should have been to see the Jedi Anakin WOULD have been had he not turned. An older, wiser Anakin who had finally gotten over himself and his rebel phase and now fit in with the Order. If Lucas insisted on a younger Anakin, fine, just chop Shaw out completely and show Hayden in his ROTS outfit. No badly done half-measures.

Hell, Hayden's almost the right age now; if they tried deepfaking his face onto Shaw's body today (and this time telling him to actually look offscreen at Luke with a beaming grin and tears of joy, instead of just smirking straight into the camera), it'd be problem solved.

Dunno how you're counting, and I'm no spec expert, but again, my Harmy files are 1280x720 - and, unlike the "standard blu-ray size" figures of 1920x1280, said files are fitted to the movies' widescreen aspect ratio, and therefore aren't counting several hundred pixels of useless black space.

Bottom line: yes, an official 4K release would probably be a tad better than what's available now in terms of baseline image resolution, but, unless it's a full restoration that strips away the crap of the Special Editions, it's a hard pass from moi.

There's documentation from Harmy himself that the work was mastered at 720p, less than blu-ray resolution. He explained why and included side by side image comparisons to show how not much visual detail was actually lost with this compromise. And the iso images for each movie fit perfectly on a single DVD. This wouldn't be the case if they were in 1080p. Of course, this was a few years back, so maybe things have changed since then. There were rumors that v3.0 would be 1080p, but I don't know what ever happened with that.

Errh, or so I've hypothetically heard, regarding all of the above. :shifty:

Every ‘Star Wars’ Movie Will Be Available on Disney+ in 4K, Dolby Vision, and Atmos
All of the Star Wars movies have been remastered in 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos support for the service. This will mark the first time the original trilogy, and those pesky prequels, have been made available in 4K anywhere. And while there have been rumors of a 4K box set containing the complete Skywalker Saga, for now, Disney+ is the only place you’ll be able to have access to the remasters.

No disc release by the sound of it in this article.

I would be very surprised if there wasn't one eventually. However, Disney+ will have the corner on it for a bit. Probably about six months... just in time for the release of the complete saga!

That’s cool but I’d rather have the discs. That and them finally allowing 4K movies on iTunes.

I think the key point of focus here is "have been remastered". So they're actually done, all of them. Including the prequels, which were shot in 1080p, meaning only quarter of the pixels that make up a 4K image, so some heavy upscaling was necessary. I'm very curious about the end product, and whether or not they've polished the CG, which (in a lot of shots) aged rather horribly.

Yes I think there will be a disc release eventually. I can see this is just a ploy to increase sign ups to Disney+, which is understandable.

Yes I'll be interested to see if anything has been tinkered with again. You'd have to assume given the regularity they've messed with them before (with mixed results) that they have taken this opportunity to do so again. I'm curious as to how the prequels will be mastered to 4k also.

I was going to do a rewatch of the saga films leading into TRoS. Glad I waited to start until after Disney+ launched. 4K it is!

Um... Would someone who is more familiar with the blu rays go look at Disney +? I mean, they're still the SEs but I think they look... Better?

And at least Empire opens with 20th Century Fox!

I am wondering if the discs will come with the TROS physical release? I mean, right now, Disney has the best of both worlds, of allowing audiences to see the Star Wars films in 4k, having the work completed on the rest of the films prior to TROS release, and then being able to move that to physical media, either in anticipation of TROS physical release, or as a huge package deal.

I'd say win, win, win.

I would say that's exactly what's going happen, there will be plenty of people who will buy a final big box set with all the movies in - when my 720p TV finally dies and I upgrade to 4k with a PS5, I'm sure I will too, despite owning them all on Blu Ray. In the meantime they have them on Disney+ as one of the hooks to sign up for the service.

Disney know what they're doing. They are masters at it.

I would be very surprised if there was not some sort of a 4K UHD Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga set released when TRoS is released likely around April.

In the meantime, I will install the Disney+ app on my 4K set and enjoy the first seven movies in all their glory (and TLJ actually on 4K UHD).

I hope you both enjoy it :)

I will enjoy my VHS :D

Ah! I'm amazed you have a VCR that still works.
I bought one about 6 or 7 years ago. Works fine. VHS is far cheaper than most DVDs and being a poor grad student necessitated some creative thinking.
Wow. VHS. How can you stand it?
It's a good movie. I don't know...I don't have the need for incredible graphics or whatever people keep demanding in 4K. It doesn't appeal to me, and can't afford better equipment right now anyway.

I get not upgrading to 4k because of the cost (I won't until I have to), but I would have thought you'd at least upgraded to DVD by now, DVD players and discs are dirt cheap. :bolian:
