Star Wars Books Thread

If we do get a new animated series, I wouldn't expect it until after Clone Wars
Yeah, probably.
The first issue for the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker comic miniseries, Allegiance, came out today. I'm debating if I want to wait for the trade or get the individual issues as they come out.
The JtTRoS junior novel, The Spark of Resistance, came out last week.

The trade comes out in November, so you could read it before the movie comes out that way.

Got it. Not sure it was essential and it is pretty simple in terms of plot and presentation, but fine for what it is; a middle-school book.

Don't bother with facts. This is an emotional argument about how ruined SW is right now.

SW is doing fine. The movies are generally great (outside of Solo). The New Canon stuff outside of the movies is what sucks, but that isn't all of the Star Wars franchise.

Also, his opinion is no more "fact" then mine. The producers said that the show was aimed at people younger then the Rebels demographic, and Resistance's ratings were confirmed to be below Rebels by several hundred thousand viewers per episode. Whether they intended two seasons or not (and lying about that is a common tactic for a cancelled series anyway), Resistance wasn't doing great ratings wise, and almost certainly wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway.

So, again, hopefully they take the diminished ratings into account and don't keep making SW cartoons exclusively for 4 year olds.

Considering this show has a lag time of two years between production and airing, if they did indeed plan for it to be a two season all along, they would have worked on the finale before the series even premiered, meaning ratings wouldn't have played a factor in the decision at all.

Unrelated to the Resistance talk, today the public library was having its monthly sale of donated books, and I picked up some old EU books I didn't have, specifically Tales from Jabba's Palace (The only "Tales From" book I didn't have) and three of the Young Jedi Knights series (Shadow Academy, Lightsabers and Darkest Knight). After I got home, I opened up the books and saw this

Now, obviously I can't really know the legitimacy of these, but even the potential is cool, and there are a few things that lean toward them being legitimate:

1. They match images of both KJA and Moesta (his wife)'s signatures that I can find online (along with the style of personalization in KJA's signatures on Star wars books, he seems to do/have done those styles of comments a lot)
2. Who fakes the signature (with personalized messages) of a lesser known sci fi author? I mean, what would the actual value of that be? Probably under $20, it would be weird for whoever donated these to have been scammed for a signature from an author of this kind

These were just randomly donated to and and sold in a public library sale, but stuff like this showing up is far from impossible, since books get donated for a lot of reasons.

Regardless, I didn't have these books, so I get value out of that, and they were all $1 a piece anyway, so its not like potential signatures were a factor in me buying them. All it means is that I'll probably keep them in a slightly nicer place then I would otherwise (but I take care of my books anyway). They were a cool, if unintentional, find.

Resistance had Brandon Auman as main writer. That pretty much says dead on arrival project.

As stated above, the show lasted the amount of time intended, which is a success no matter how you slice it. (Also, Auman worked on TMNT 2012.)

Nice. I've sometimes found really cool stuff I wanted in book sales like that, but never an autographed copy like that.

So has anybody read Spark of the Resistance or Alliegiance #1?
I read the first chapter of Spark as a free sample, and it got off to a pretty good start. I love that the Porgs are apparently now permanent residents of the Falcon and even have names, thanks to Rose.

Spark of Resistance was fine. Great to see characters who've had little screen time together on a mission. It is a middle-grade book, so it's not an especially deep story, but worth a check out, at least.

StarWars.com has posted an article by Jennifer Heddle the executive editor for Luasfilm's books about why she thinks Resistance Reborn is essential reading before seeing the Rise of Skywalker.
The two things that really interest me are seeing Poe deal with the aftermath of his actions in The Last Jedi, and that it has characters from the books, comics, and video games in it. I'm crossing my fingers for an appearance by Zay and Shriv from Battlefront II, and/or Thane and Cinea from Lost Stars.

Oh, still happy to hear that, I really liked them in Battlefront II. After the game ended, I was hoping to see them again at some point.
