Star Citizen

It's the buzz, at least. It has been a rumor for a while, but yeah, this latest update? It makes things suspect. So many QoL improvements made for this update seems to indicate some kind of movement ability we haven't had before. I am hoping it's space legs. *crosses fingers*

Plus a lot of previous GalNet articles mentioned stuff like wrist wearable computers and healing nanotech; the kind of stuff you'd need for FPS type activities.

Personally, I’d be happier with atmospheric landings but either one would be a major step forward.

Around the time of the original crowd-funding campaign, I remember thinking Star Citizen was a sure bet, and that nothing would ever come of Braben's efforts to revive Elite.

Funny how things turned out.

I think that's largely down to not being aware of how much of a pillock CR is. Honestly, if CR had been relegated to ideas guy early on we'd have probably had squadron 42 in our hands a few years ago, with no celeb cast aside from Mark Hamill. Instead he throws money and time away on things that really don't need it. Worse, some of the things he throws it away on actually set the game back

That said, Star Citizen is looking amazing:-

It definitely looks to be an improvement over what's been seen so far. The FPS is definitely increased and the soundtrack has a Daft Punk flavor to it (a good think, IMO). The 3rd person "slow run" scenes are kind of peculiar, though. The ship flight scenes are better, but a little glitchy with red and purple artifacts all over the place on some of the exterior shots. Beautiful terrain scenery. This is the first time I've actually thought they might succeed with it, after all the false starts and bad press. Any targeted deployment platforms announced yet?

Lately I’ve been replaying the old Wing Commander games, and it seems like the ones I enjoy the most are the ones with the least involvement by Roberts. He was totally absent for WC2 and Privateer, and his involvement in WC4 only went as far as producing the live action segments.

Of course, he wound back the most interesting plot developments from WC2 the first chance he got.

I've often made fun of CR in this thread but i still hope they'll release an awesome looking and well designed game if not for the thousands of people who had invested in this game.

I love Elite but sadly can't play properly anymore since my Pro HOTAS control system crapped out and i was too cheap to either shell out even more for a better setup but also won't downgrade because the cheap ones also feel cheap.

Star Citizen Free Fly!.
Testing with my Low-End PC, and it's barely playable for me.

That was expected though given the features and scope of the game. Hell, some time ago even high end PCs had trouble running the game at max settings.

I wonder if Roberts took lessons from Alec Peters or the other way around.

Perhaps this is a chicken/egg paradox...

I'm not sure when it went from being a project that simply failed due to bad management to actively scamming people but each month is trying to raise money to try to get something out.

Seriously. About a week ago, I got an email from "Roberts Space Industries" offering me the chance to get a great deal on some ship or offer or something, and I realized that they were still running this thing.

At which point could you actually sue for fraud?

I'm not too familiar with the Kickstarter and what goes on currently and what people actually pay for (is it just a ship model without the promise to be able to use it in a game?) but at which point would it be legally obvious that there won't be a playable game?

I dunno, it's a failed project and there's lots more of those than actual fraud.
