Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Been there, done that...
<== Love "ENTERPRISE"

Spent way to much time here defending it back then and the vitriol was pretty much what drove me away for quite some time.

(haven't even gone in the Enterprise forums since I've come back)

I've peaked in there a few times out of curiosity. It seems okay. The worst trouble-makers either moved on to bashing NuTrek and then DSC (or "STD" as we know they just love to call it) or moved on in general. Either voluntarily or by force through a permaban.

Of course, everybody knows what I immediately did upon reading this...

:adore:

Though, I do have to admit THIS is not quite what I was expecting...

Oi, those aren't black with red piping! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Also, the one third from the left is struggling not to smirk. Reshoot is needed. Anyone have a time machine and another roll of film?

True but TrekBBS is usually filled with people that love everything. :)

Not quite... :guffaw: I won't and can't speak for anyone apart from me, myself and/or I this time, but I've never cared for prequels in general. Rarely is there such a question that needed to be fleshed out and resolved. And because it's made years if not decades later, combined with the fact no amount of research is 100% perfect, combined with new technologies that did not exist at the time the original show was made, they just won't match up - which partially defeats the purpose but can be made up for if other factors and facets are that much stronger, which is not often. DSC and ENT may have one or two episodes of interest but that's that.

There are people (not all DSC fans) who loathe TOS and/or its actors as well. The world is made up of all types, which I hope was coined before IDIC was but IDIC is within the creation of a series with motif whereas the world is a lot more complex, convoluted, and most TV villains say the world is chaotic and needs order anyway - without winking at the camera (ask Tobias Vaughn) and not always with throwing in a troll line about "democracy"... unless you're in Castrovalva.

I don't like the Star Wars prequels or Enterprise. Obviously I like Discovery, and I also like Better Call Saul. But if we want to keep in genre: there was a BSG prequel, Capirca, that I liked but no one else seemed to.

So I guess it depends on the prequel. Someone's going to twist what I'm about to say into something else, but my favorite prequels are the ones where I don't feel like I'm watching a prequel. Saul's story is disconnected from Walter White's. While we know what happens to the Enterprise, we have no idea what will happen to Discovery. And Caprica taking place before BSG with everything being destroyed means that it feels inherently different with the 12 colonies still intact and the focus of the series being so radically different.

With ENT, it always felt like a prequel. "This is how we met X race. This is how we met Y race. Oh, that's right! They can only go up to Warp 5. There's no Federation yet. Humans aren't evolved yet and the Vulcans keep reminding us!" It's Star Trek before it was Star Trek, "Here's Star Trek but we don't have everything there yet!" For me, constantly being reminded of what they don't have yet gets old after a while. Then there's the Star Wars prequels and how Darth Vader became Darth Vader... only problem was he was Anakin Skywalker first. And, yeah, I'll just leave that right there.

I was a Caprica fan, too! (But no surprise there, given my avatar.) ;)

I'm surprised there are no episode titles for PIC yet. When was "The Vulcan Hello" revealed the title for the first episode of DSC?

Caprica was awesome, but it was in the time of "ratings" and "nielson" and they just didn't advertise it enough to get a lot of people watching it.
There is nothing wrong with prequels per se, it's just as valid setting to tell your story as anything else. Star Wars prequels sucked because of horrible writing. Same for Enterprise (for the most part). The concept of Vulcans as older brother that keeps knocking you down, is not wrong, in theory. Just the execution completely sucked. I wanted to see how the Vulcans as superior race with superior ships, would get completely subjugated into Federation. The writing and TPTB never gave it a chance. Combine it with declining ratings, and it was doomed.

I don't even understand what the OP is talking about (spock?), now the Data is introduced? Parallel universe? This isn't in parallel universe - this is a continuation of prime ENT, TOS, DIS, TNG, DS9, VOY … this has nothing to do with JJverse other than the fact that the JJverse referenced incident in the prime timeline where Romulus was destroyed and Spock supposedly killed in that destruction (when actually sent back in time to JJverse).

If he has one, you know who would be a great love interest for Picard in this new series?

If not Beverly, it has to be Alynna Nechayev. Remember their discussion in 'Descent'?
Alynna ordered Picard around like a puppy, now they would be in love, interesting, right? :)

There IS a Chateaux Picard wine:

Patrick Stewart is a British actor who played a French captain in Star Trek: The Next Generation. There seem to be plenty of French fans who have taken Stewart as one of their own. Stewart received a warm welcome when he appeared on the Star Trek: Picard panel at Comic Con Paris. During the Q&A part of the panel, a French fan asked if Stewart had ever tasted “the real Chateau Picard” wine from “the region of Bordeaux.” Stewart revealed that he had not. The fan then presented Stewart with a bottle of authentic Chateau Picard wine from the vineyard in Bordeaux.

, but has also been behind branded wines for Downton Abbey and even NPR.

It’s a licensed. If there ever was an actual chateaux Picard making actual wine, CBS would be paying a pretty penny for the use of the name.

It makes sense to tie up all loose ends, to then bring out the much awaited somewhat parallel universe star trek series...

Huh? What parallel universe?

I guess they don't see the age of Spock as an issue... But they should add some releases for actor to do movies or TV on the side... Even if it means releasing him from a semi formal pledge.

Spock? What are you watching?

Picard... I wonder if...
- Will they add little bits of new like Voyager, adding onto yet not making the mistake of Enterprise of trying to be both random and set on a year long chase, which made more sense with Voyager
- Data is now introduced, he could find an inventors chip from his father to make him like experimental version of 7 of 9.
- Even probable guest stars like Riker, has the option to be his double twin, like week end's at Berney's?

What did I just read?
