You got it. And for the exact reason.

And here I thought I was being at least semi-tricky.

    Your turn, Warlord.

    Clue # 1

This violation of the prime directive is clearly trouble, right from the off.

    Bread and Circuses?
The prime directive was broken only twice prior to the arrival of the Kirk and the Enterprise, once by Captain R M Merik in Bread and Circuses, and once by Captain Ron Tracey in The Omega Glory. Kirk and Scotty had to dance around the prime directive to remove themselves from the clutches of Proconsul, Claudius Marcus, so, I'm picking Bread and Circuses.

    Nope, good reasoning though :)

    Clue # 2

A glass of alcohol goes so well with talk of differences, don't you think?

Star Trek drinking clues are my specialty.

    Errand of Mercy?
    1. Kirk and Spock beam down to plead their case for the Federation to help the primitive Organians in their war with the Klingons. This comes off as a first contact for the Federation. Shouldn't this type of contact be avoided per the prime directive?
    2. Kor invites Kirk for a drink before he plans to rip his mind apart. I think Kirk erred in turning his request down; I'd take the drink especially if I was about to be tortured into a vegetable. Besides, Kor seemed like an interesting host. :techman:

    A Piece of the Action?
    1. I avoided this guess since the Horizon's contact came before the Non-Interference Directive went into effect. That said, it was one the main themes of this episode, so, I guess it could apply to the clue. I guess Kirk was trying to prevent more advanced technology falling into the Iotians's hands but they failed miserably; in the end, McCoy left a communicator in Bela's office. And we learn that the technical basis for everything is the transtator. In addition, Kirk demonstrates the follow advanced technologies: teleporter, ship phasers, ship sensors, hand phasers, communicators, subspace communication, computers, and other surveillance tech.
    2. The first thing Bela Oxmyx offers at first contact with Kirk is a drink. "Make yourself a drink, Captain. It's good stuff. I distill it myself." Kirk ignorantly turns it down (Bela probably thought this was a sign that Kirk's position was weak). At the end, to celebrate the new deal where the Federation gets a 40% "piece of the action", Kirk asks Bela Oxmyx to "Let's break out some of your drinking stuff and celebrate the syndicate." Now he gets it.

Hmm... Sounds a bit like Patterns of Force.

    1) Gill interferes with Ekos
    2) I seem to remember a reference to someone having too much to drink at some event.
    3) Kirk tells Spock they're going to Pose as Nazi's.

    Clue # 4

A taste of Armageddon? Anon offers Kirk a drink. It's all about computer generated numbers. Spock basically tells a Jr. to basically sit on the woman - can't remember her name. But, can't remember anything about the prime directive. Unless it had to do with the ambassador violating the message from the planet? It's been a long time.

Correct it is A Taste of Armageddon sir!

    1) Right from the off, the Enterprise has been given a Code 710 to leave well alone. But Fox ignores this, and insists on contact. Technically, from that moment on, he has broken the non-interference directive.
    2) Anon and Kirk have a drink and discuss their differences.
    3) Spock orders the Yeoman to sit on their captive if necessary.
    4) The war is now simply based on numbers of casualties. Their are no weapons or bloodiness, everything is clinically measured.

Over to you now, dear Silvermane! :)

A Private Little War? McCoy says there's nothing else he can do that Dr. M'Benga can't, so he accompanies Kirk on his planetside investigation.
