Watching Star Trek for the first time (again)

Heck yes! I'm really looking forward to it, actually.
Every Sunday, about a dozen friends come over to watch television. The past few months, we've been playing a war/role-playing game where each week, we "fly" a B-17 mission over Europe. The group just finished mission #13 (which was NOT a lucky mission...) I'm planning to watch it with them every week.
The first season is the strongest dramatically. Over the course of its run, it gradually changes to being less drama and more (slightly dumbed down, but still enjoyable) action/adventure.
Speak of the devil, this episode came out tomorrow (time travel is WEIRD), 9-18-64. And it's a Trek twofer! Robert Lansing and Frank Overton. I assume they are regulars so I won't include them every time:
Yeah, they’re both Season 1 leads. Lansing gets replaced by Paul Burke in S2, but Overton will be in the entire series except for an odd episode or three.
A few days ago (September 27) saw the debut of a new sitcom called "My Living Doll". It looks terrible -- about a robot in the guise of a beautiful woman (Julie Newmar) and the Robert Cummings who adopts her and tries to turn her into the "perfect woman" (per the show: 'does what she's told, knows when to shut up').
Why am I watching this? Well, Julie Newmar is actually quite excellent in it. Moreover, Ms. Newmar describes it as one of her very favorite roles. I have to wonder if the premise will be craftily subverted as the show goes on, and it will turn out that, gosh darnit, women are people TOO!

I can see not mentioning the omnipresent Paul Carr in 12 O'Clock High's second episode, "Follow the Leader" (Sept. 25); but I thought the next episode, "The Men and the Boys" (Oct. 2) was pretty noteworthy Trek guest-wise: Glenn Corbett, Lou Antonio, and Sally Kellerman, all billed in the opening credits alongside Lansing and Overton.

And I hadn't recognized Paul Carr or Lou Antonio! Good catch! (We watch 12 O'Clock High every week -- we are currently doing a B-17 RPG, one mission every week, followed by watching the show).
12 O'Clock High and The Outer Limits seem to be THE place for pre-Trek.
Looks like you're catching those the same way I am this time around. (H&I had been running the show a couple years back, and it had been on sister network MeTV for a while before that.) If there's any interest, I've been writing up the episodes in another thread...the one for "The Men and the Boys" is currently linked where it says "55th Anniversary Viewing" in my sig.
So how does that RPG work? Is it more like a wargame, with everyone controlling a plane, or does everyone play a member on a plane's crew?
ETA: I was just reminded of a noteworthy bit of Trek business in 12OCH that has nothing to do with guest actors. Starting with the fifth episode, "The Climate of Doubt," listen for a recurring musical motif (used sporadically throughout the run of the series) that sounds uncannily like the Trek fanfare.

Ha! She'll get another crack at playing an army nurse.
People uploaded them to YouTube. I downloaded them and queued them on my TV server.
Everyone plays a member. Our Bombardier just died heroically on his 19th mission. Six more to go...
There's a LOT of Trekkish music on TV right now (64-65 season). We remember TOS music because it's Trek and we love Trek, but most of the good dramatic shows had similar music at the time. Some better than others. TOS was at the high end.

How are your waist gunners holding out? Seems like they're the casualty of choice on 12OCH.

IIRC the guys at both ends had the worst odds, bombardier, navigator and tail gunner. Then the waist and turret gunners, pilots and radio operator.
