Was there ever a sound track released for The Animated Series?

oh oops (teach me to answer a post 2 seconds after I wake up!) I would assume so if you have a way to isolate the audio off the laser disc. I bet Neil S. Bulk and Mike Matessino could answer that for sure!

 

No way to do that from the LaserDisc. They only presented the mono mixes.

If one had access as Neil and associates did to the original tape with isolated tracks. But one would need to convince the owner of said tapes to let you touch them and license them.for some use. Not.too likely, though Richard Arnold would have let you have them for a song to make them go away.

I did hear someone who apparently was given access to the the three track tapes and they took an episode using voices and sound effect and tracked it with TOS music. Some people have all the luck.

Although I have to say if I ever feel like saying "Computer, give me music to Kirk by" I more often than not pull up the TAS music. It out Steiners Steiner!

They didn't have access to the original tapes, which were more than likely destroyed by Hallmark when they bought out the Filmation library. LaLa Land had to re-construct the soundtrack from stems. Stems are the audio tracks for the completed episode, synced to picture--music, dialog and effects each on their own track--but because its the final mix the audio ducks down and back up so the dialogue can be heard. It's all over the map as far as volume.

And yes, some of the music came directly from the laser disc (the main and end titles were not in the stems and some of the stems had the sound effects accidentally mixed with the music directly) None of the music from TAS was in stereo, stems or the final product. It was a mono-world for kids entrainment in the early 70s.

We didn't have the original scoring masters (they're lost), but the stems are original tapes made at the time of production.

Yes, but the discussion earlier was maybe the YouTube guy used the Laser Disc to extract the music. The main source of the YouTube video must have been the extra channels created for the 5.1 tracks on the DVD.
