What I'm reminded of is the "utilitarian" transporter room set alteration used in "Dagger of the Mind" for beaming some cargo and a stowaway. That operation, too, resulted in the transportee being placed somewhere relatively far away from the bridge, indeed on one of the lower decks (Deck 14 is mentioned, and the DSC ship, even if perhaps bigger, has the same porthole rows and thus probably deck count as the TOS one). Plenty of room for a roller coaster turboride there.
Peck really manages to look like Quinto here... Which I think is a good thing, just like Romjin managing to look quite unlike Hudec-Barrett-Roddenberry.
