It continues to surprise and confuse me that TNG's "ultra-utopian future" is still seen as the 'ideal' representation of what Star Trek is somehow "supposed to be" despite the fact that it has been proven to be an 'outlier' and the 'exception rather than the rule' in comparison to both what preceded and followed it from a production standpoint.
DSC has not up to this point done anything that TOS, DS9, VGR, and ENT didn't also do in terms of both narrative and tone, and, based on that trailer, it doesn't appear as if Season 3 will be any different.
