One is supposedly without any written script, just musical accompaniment.
I didn't know that.
Almost like a Disney FANTASIA tale.

Hmm, I just watched the Cage again and noticed that the bridge shot is out of proportion with the Enterprise dome. So that whole shot could be written off as artistic license or Talosian illusion.

So... I maintain the Cage bridge is the Enterprise's Battle Bridge while the Disco-Ent Bridge is the "true" bridge until the 2265 refit.

Next, we have to explain the Cage/Where No Man Has Gone Before uniforms. I'll maintain that these are Starfleet dress uniforms that the crew was still wearing for a formal event just preceding these episodes.

The Disco-Ent uniforms are the "true" Starfleet uniforms for Constitution class vessels from 2254-2265. When Pike says that his uniform is "new" in 2257, he's hinting that the Constitution uniforms will soon become fleetwide. These uniforms change to the TOS uniforms in 2265 after WNMHGB.

There, it's all fixed. ;)

Two words: Bridge Modules.

The Constitution class was initially issued in 2245 with a Mark I module, containing the newest Duotronic systems befitting a ship so advanced. Problems, however, arised with the EPS relay systems shorting out in battle, causing dangerous electrical discharges and several injuries.

When Pike took command in 2250, he initially sought and received an upgrade to help with this issue. He received a newly designed Mark II module, with the most advanced features due to a boon in developmental technology following the launch of the Constitution and an evolution in Duotronics.

The Mark II, however, while providing protection from explosive relays, failed on numerous occasions during the Sheliak border wars, and was scrapped by Starfleet shortly after this Short Trek (as was the entire new wave of Duotronic OS that the module relied on). The Enterprise received a new module installation and a six month leave on Starbase 40.

The new module, actually a refurbished Mark I from the USS Constitution, was utilized for a few years from 2253 to early 2256. It contained the same problems as before, before the Mark III, identical to the Mark II, was introduced.

The Mark III served valiantly during the few incursions of the Klingon War, but it quickly became apparent that the overreliance on holographic display systems and another malfunctioning OS led to even worse cascading failures after about a year and a half.

Pike initiated bids for a replacement Mark IV module in early 2258. But rumors have it that Starfleet might just scrap the Mark III entirely and refurbish the reliable Mark I bridge style. If only they could solve the EPS overload issue.

They sure are doubling down on the turbolift scenes. Sure, they're in the neck. I don't care anymore.

For a second there, I thought Una was going to reveal that she was half-Vulcan too. Maybe just human-looking, like Spock is Vulcan-looking, but that doesn't make much sense (but neither does not knowing her name...). I'm still not sure why she broke out in song.

I liked shouty Spock and smiley Spock. And Una holding a torch for Pike. All good Cage shoutouts. Yeah, she should be a Lieutenant, but I guess that's been successfully retconned now. Troi, if I recall correctly, was also incorrectly referred to as Lieutenant in early TNG.

Maybe Una just got a promotion the day before, and The Cage happens in about two months, and Pike keeps forgetting her rank (and she, being in love, doesn't correct him).

I'm kinda glad that Yeoman Colt didn't show up.

That would presuppose that the alien Colt (assuming that's her true form) is capable of interbreeding with humans, because that was the Talosians' intention - to select potential mates for Pike.

She was described as an Earth woman. But that's just fine, as aliens can live on Earth too.

Perhaps Colt's alien appearance on DSC was faked? She could have been preparing for some kind of undercover work.

Or maybe one or both Colts isn't actually named Colt. They are never referred to by name, are they?

I’d just file it under the Discovery folks fucking up. It happens.

Only gripe is that the Enterprise uniforms from "QA" are identical to season 2 of Discovery. In "If Memory Serves" the flashback to "The Cage" has the light gold/blue uniforms and then they seemingly switch back to the gold/red/blue colored off-center collar variety.

In any event best score so far from Discovery, courtesy of Michael Giacchino of the Kelvin films.

According to the credits, the computer voice was provided by Jenette Goldstein. There was an unamed character in Generations played by an actor with the same name, I wonder if they're the same person.

My earlier post suggested that the Cage uniforms are some variant of dress uniform for a formal event just preceding the episode (maybe the Rigel VII incident, which a comic book speculates was Rigel's botched entry into the Federation).

Also, Pike's line about the uniforms being new in Discovery, a few years later, could go with the novels' story about how the Constitution class had its own uniforms before becoming fleetwide (circa 2257 apparently).

The Cage bridge could be a battle or auxiliary bridge.
