I'm beginning to think turbolifts inhabit a kind of Hammerspace that is slightly out of phase with the rest of the universe. It starts to make the turbolifts in TFF make sense

What were the starting point and destination of the ride? Supposedly Pike's secondary hull is a "maze" just like Kirk's, so plenty of room for a roller coaster there. And many beam-ups in TOS S1 apparently were to a platform somewhere down below ("Mudd's Women", "Dagger of the Mind"), while supposedly Ensign Spock would travel from there to, say, to Bridge to report in, or to his quarters in the saucer.

As regards the uniforms, they are only said to be "new" in "Brother", not "brand" new or anything. And they are Pike's consolation prize for not getting the Discovery, so semantically they would be as old as the Discovery...

No doubt they were assigned when Pike headed into deep space, years before the war, while folks back home wore the blue coveralls. Pretty much exactly as in the Kelvinverse, where the nice bright colors are only worn "out there" and dark blue or gray rules in "official" contexts.

What jars badly here is Number One's rank. If she's a Lieutenant Commander here already, why does everybody refer to her as mere Lieutenant in "The Cage"? Seems TPTB were simply too lazy to make changes to Romjin's costume!

Are there any real people with Una as a surname? Or are we to assume that Una is like Data, and has no other name? Of course, Spock is also listed as Spock, even though we have every reason to think he also has a surname, one he shares with Sarek and Amanda.

Is there any info one way or another whether the new shorties will ever reach Netflix?

There's nothing to fix, the cage uniforms were thrown out for a reason after the pilots, TOS didn't want them so why should they be acknowledged now?

No, this makes no sense. The cage bridge is the main bridge and was redesigned and updated for a 21st century show with cinematic production values, that's all. It will not be "upgraded" into the TOS bridge just like Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck won't morph into Majel Barrett and Leonard Nimoy.

Not a surname, but Una McCormack is a Star Trek novelist

With the last set of shorts, they uploaded them all at once a week or so before the new season I think. So I'm guessing we're f***ed untill then.

They have scheduled the short Treks as I expected. The 5 Discovery related ones the rest of this year, and then Picard related short in January just before the Picard series..

The SHOUTING SPOCK nod was appreciated :)

Any word on how UK fans can view this? Not expecting Netflix to do us any favours, given how long they waited to release the last season, and how they did so without any fanfare.

As far as I can tell at this time, only one.
Supposedly, it will be the last one to air before PICARD starts.

I believe there are 3 Enterprise/Pike shorts, 2 animated ones and 1 Picard.

I wonder if the animated ones will be referenced from the new animated shows or something completely different?

Ok. I never did think a Short Trek of some kind can top Calypso for me, yet here we go:D. Yeah, I'm 1000% biased because Spock is my favorite character as long as I remember and Mr Anson Mount is endlessly brilliant as Pike. Pike's crew chemistry is priceless, can I have a capt Pike spin off as Christmas gift , PLEASE? I watched this one eight times already, makes me smile every time. Sorry guys, too many feeeeelz.

No word yet, but I suspect we're screwed. Netflix only got last year's Disco shorts right before season two dropped, and even then there was lots of speculation they wouldn't buy them at all because they weren't part of the original package.

Now with Picard going to Amazon instead of Netflix, the shorts would potentially be split between the two platforms.

It's really frustrating... I think the best we can hope for is similar to last year - the Disco shorts come in one go just before season three starts, and the Picard short goes to Amazon.

No idea about the animated ones.

Kurtzman said animated Shorts will use a different animation style that either new animated series, so they are probably not related to the new animated shows. They are most likely connected to Discovery. I am sure "Lower Decks" will get its own Short Treks eventually.

BTW, is there any information out there about what The Trouble with Edward is about? Based on the title I'm guessing it's the Tribble one, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there for me to confirm that.

Pulitzer prize winning Michael Chabon is 2 for 2 for his Short Trek scripts. Picard is in good hands with him as the showrunner. And this mini-episode was dedicated to the memory of his father Dr Robert Chabon who passed recently.

I think the better question is will my theory ever be disproven? I doubt it. They will never show the Cage bridge or Cage uniforms again, and so they can be rationalized any way we see fit because it will never be disproven.

So what's the harm in fans theorizing as such? It certainly can be retofitted into the TOS bridge in-universe because the transition likely will never happen on screen, short of an outright TOS remake. As it is, even a Pike show is still a long shot.
It's bizarre how you're stating these as facts regarding a fictional, non-existent universe, whereas my theory at least rationalizes how the fictional universe's elements can fit together. Because in-universe, yeah Peck and Romijn do indeed morph into Barrett and Nimoy, and then back into Peck and Romijn in time for Discovery. It's just the audience understands the real world reason for this and in-universe no one notices a change.

Oh and designer intentions aren't canon. The movie designers intended the ridged Klingons to be the TOS Klingons too, until they weren't.

Your "it was always the same" argument is only good until it isn't. Remember, people were saying that the TOS Klingons always had ridges until characters in-universe starting in DS9 outright said they didn't. So don't be so quick to proclaim "they were always the same" as hard facts.

Or are you going to tell me Kor, Kang, and Koloth always had ridges even in TOS? (because in-universe no one outright said they found a cure).
