News Variety Reports Robert Pattinson is the new Batman

Reminds me of one of the better touches in BvS, the early title card reading, "Metropolis: Mankind Is Introduced to the Superman." That "the" in front of "Superman" simply but effectively conveys a perception of him as inhuman, alien, a figure inspiring awe and fear instead of wonder and hope. It's not a portrayal of Superman I prefer, but it conveys the movie's tone very efficiently.

Cavill's is one of my three favorite Superman portrayals. It's a real pity that he's very unlikely to continue in the role.

The guy playing Supes on Supergirl is acceptable, but nothing to get excited about. He's got the good-enough-for-the-job-considering-the-pay vibe of the Tom Welling tribe.

Actors usually don't make much from their first superhero roles because of the promise of big pay days in the sequels. henry Cavill got $300k for MOS.

I don't think that applies to somebody with a name to themselves like Pattinson has. How much did Affleck get for BvS?

Cavill was a virtual unknown, especially compared to Pattison, who starred in franchise that made over 3 billion dollars.

He's probably getting more than 300K.

I don't think that follows. There are ways Penguin could pose a physical threat to Batman without fisticuffs, by using weaponry or henchpersons. For instance, in the animated series of the same name as this film, the Penguin, while a reasonably capable fighter himself, had two very creepy, birdlike female martial artists as his enforcers, and they were rather scary. Give Penguin a similarly intimidating sidekick -- say, Killer Croc, or maybe a version of Magpie for the bird theme -- and he doesn't have to do the fighting himself. The idea of the Penguin is that he's unassuming at first glance but quite deadly in practice because of his cunning and ruthlessness. He's not supposed to look dangerous; that's the whole point. What makes him scary is what he does.

Although it's certainly possible for a heavyset man to be an effective fighter. Watch any Sammo Hung movie.

And you are still trying to categorically disprove a personal feeling I have about a movie that hasn't even filmed yet. Let it go already.

Not "disprove," just evaluate and discuss and put in context by suggesting other possibilities. That's how conversation works. It's not one person making an assertion and everyone else blindly agreeing; it's differing ideas and possibilities being put on the table, examined, and compared. And that means ideas get questioned and challenged and the weaker ideas get weeded out, which is a good and healthy thing that benefits everyone.

Explaining how conversation works is pretty condescending.

Also what happens in conversation, people pick up on cues to let things go. That a point has been reached where someone doesn’t feel the need to keep explaining something or defending something over and over.

Sometimes people don’t come to a synthesis and that’s ok.

Well, according to We've Got This Covered, I've kind of gotten the impression they aren't the most reliable source when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I'll wait until we have a far more reliable source that verifies that claim before commenting.

Zoe Kravitz is perfect casting.

We got this covered isn't 100% unreliable. They were the first ones to report that Brent Spiner was returning for Picard and they were the first ones to report that Cress Williams was appearing in Crisis on Infinite Earths. That said, they have passed along patent nonsense in the past, so YMMV.

Biological daughter of Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, stepdaughter of Jason Momoa (who's only 10 years older than she is).

So the stepdaughter of Aquaman, the biological daughter of Cinna from The Hunger Games, and... Hmm. Lisa Bonet hardly has any genre credits, aside from a TV movie of The Lathe of Heaven and a recurring role in the US adaptation of Life on Mars. These days it's kind of surprising for a well-known actor not to have some SF/fantasy/superhero credit. somewhere.

Meanwhile, IMDb's predictive text algorithm is broken. Up until the last letter of typing Lisa Bonet's name, the top name it offered as a prediction was Lisa Bonet. But as soon as I typed the "T," Bonet's name disappeared and was replaced by... Jet Li. HUH????? And it's not just this time. It always does that -- as soon as you complete the full name, it disappears from the predictive list and gets replaced by something almost entirely different.
