8 minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival too

    Two clips leaked online

Phoenix absolutely nails the part where he just goes off the rails.

He savagely beats and murders the guy in front of his dad who is a midget. His dad tries to run away but he can't reach the door lock

He shoots Deniro's character on live TV.

They said that nothing was being taken out of the comics, but...

the bit about Robert de Niro sounds like it could come from The Dark Knight returns when Joker was on the David Letterman clone show.

Joker-WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU CROSS A MENTALLY ILL LONER WITH A SOCIETY THAT ABANDONS HIM AND TREATS HIM LIKE TRASH?!

I’ll tell you what you get! You get what you f’ing deserve!

    *Shoots de niro’s character*

I can see a lot of backlash in this day and age over that scene

Exactly. James Bond did well for 50 years and there was little attempts at continuity until Casino Royale. General audiences just want to be entertained for a few hours. They arent microanalyzing these movies like hardcore fans do.

Make of this what you will, but sadly, warnings have been issued:

Hopefully nothing will happen, especially now that this has been publicized, but there's no way in hell I'd go see Joker on opening night anywhere near Austin.

Didn't this happen with "Falling Down" as well? The whole "Angry White Man" story that officials were afraid would inspire folks?

It's a little sad that things have gotten so bad that they're getting this paranoid about a movie.

The fear was basically created by activist trying to stop the movie and promoted by clickbait sites to profit off the fear. Republicans have done this for years trying to scare people from things like rock music, video games to even trenchcoats after Columbine. Then they tried to stop "Do the Right Thing" because black people would riot. Heck I even forgot the comic code and ever book burning. This time it is liberals creating the fear but is the same old ignorant attitude. I hope people see it if they wanted to. Jason

They will, but I can't imagine this movie doing comic book movie blockbuster level numbers. It just doesn't seem... pleasant.

This has been around for years with fears of movies. It is the nature of humanity.

I've been surprised by the reaction of some level headed people who haven't even seen the film yet. One of them was a British film critic, the other a U.S. TV writer. I guess they are worried that the age we live in people are more susceptible to film violence but I tend to find that people are more susceptible to real life figures that are on the news every day.

Anyway, really looking forward to this.

I agree it would proably never topped the billion dollar mark. Granted it's reputation as a dangerous movie actually feels like a Streisand Effect type of thing that helps it. Jason

    https://www.thewrap.com/joker-direc...dnt-make-the-movie-to-push-buttons-exclusive/

Joker Director explains how he pitched movie to Phoenix:

" "We didn’t make the movie to push buttons,” Phillips told TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman in an interview last Friday about the filmmaking process. “I literally described to Joaquin at one point in those three months as like, ‘Look at this as a way to sneak a real movie in the studio system under the guise of a comic book film’. It wasn’t, ‘We want to glorify this behavior.’ It was literally like ‘Let’s make a real movie with a real budget and we’ll call it f–ing Joker’. That’s what it was. “

So yeah, these guys knew all along it was a "Joker in Name Only" pic and were just hijacking the name for brand recognition. Because to them nothing from a comic book can be made into a "Real" movie.
