Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Glad to hear some people were able to use them. I still had a 15% discount for a one year anniversary ( year of what I have no idea I have had multiple subscriptions and been also buying from their online store for close to 5 years).

But I bought two shuttle sets I hadn’t got and the XL reliant. So finally caught up with the shuttles, and only 2 left of the XL that have been released in the US (not sure if I am going to drop money on the Runabout, more pissed at its lack of paneling detail than I was about the major errors on the refit 1701).

And yes the shuttles are quite expensive, for size and materials, but damn it I want them. I wish they made more of them, and expanded to alien shuttles but then I would really bitch about the cost.

Since Eaglemoss announced that the XL line will go to 20 and we know up to 17. Any guesses on what the last three will be?

definitely something klingon (since we’re getting that romulan warbird), gonna guess it’s either the k’tinga or vor’cha.

maybe a proper borg cube? maybe (hopefully) one of the kelvin timeline enterprises... oh and perhaps an XL discovery, however they manage that one.

Will actually be at least 22 so there are 5 we don’t know.

I’d like to see an XL Nebula Class be one of them.

I think the K'T'inga is very likely. Maybe the Nebula and Oberth classes too, because they are among the Federation ships that existed as detailed studio models and were re-used all the time?

Yeah I'd imagine the K'T'inga or D7 are likely. We've had many of the most prominent ships. The Nebula is a fan favourite. Maybe something like the Equinox too?

After the Excelsior and Enterprise B models I also took the measurements of the EM Curry. I'm pretty sure the model is based on the components of Ed Giddings' Excelsior mesh, as it has the same inaccurate proportions. However, I think in the Curry configuration these inaccuracies aren't very noticable, so the model still looks more accurate than EM's Excelsior and Enterprise B.

i think it's time for the enterprise-A from star trek beyond, given the kelvin timeline's complete lack of representation in the XL line, my fingers are crossed, but there still might be a licensing issue tripping them up over the size these things can be.

Ok 5. Now of course there are many great models Eaglemoss has done that would look even better in an XL design. Models like the Fortunate or the Merchantman, heck most ENT Klingon ships were excellent.

But trying to keep my list reasonable:

A real well done Borg Cube, is that really too much to ask.

I would expect at least 1 of (if not both) the Ktinga class or Vorcha class ships.

Federation wise I wouldn’t mind a solid Nebula class or a Stargazer ( really could see either).

And since the discover version on the 1701 was included and we still have a bit of time left I wonder if we might get the primary ship used in Picard. Probably not it might just be two far down the road, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I think this would be a realistic list:
1. Klingon K'T'inga Class - one of the three most important alien ships together with the Klingon BoP and the Romulan Warbird.
2. Nebula Class and 3. Oberth Class - Federation ships that were built as studio models early on and subsequently used in several shows and movies.
4. Steamrunner Class and 5. USS Equinox - I think the Akira is going to sell well and more of those modern designs will be considered.

I still think the Borg Cube(s) should be done as standard size models and the Kelvin Enterprise A as a special.

Got the Scimitar today. Quite a nice looking model but the wings feel rather plastic and flimsy. I’ll have to be careful when moving it.
The size of the model almost matches in scale with the small Enterprise E. Being bigger but not overly so.

The first Cardassian ships I bought... But are they really supposed to be different colors? On screen their shades look much more similar to me.

It's hard to say. Usually the filming models had very vibrant colors, because it was easier to diffuse them after filming, rather than the other way around. (The Jem'Hadar attack ship model, for instance, was VERY purple). On top of that, the CG models didn't always match the physical models (though I don't believe CG versions of the Keldon or Groumall were ever made).

Not the case with the Romulan Warbird. It is almost a flat neutral gray IRL, with just a slight tint of blue-green. Its saturation level was ramped up to eleven in post.

Same thing going back to TOS - most of the walls and corridors were neutral gray, very little color, with the exception of the red trim, doors and the late-season transporter room. The set designers generally relied on color gels and textured scrims to give the backgrounds an appealing look and indicate differences between rooms while all using the same set. The personnel quarters were textbook examples of this.

Executive Summary: Lighting is everything.

Received my shuttle set 5 today. Anyone have a good solution to storing the mini-magazines? Are there any small binders these would fit in? I have 20 of these mini-mags now and would like a good way to store them like the official binders for the regular subscription magazines.
