Yeah, but at least they've actually thought about it. Better to ask "Can we make this possible yet?" and consider all the options before deciding the answer is "no," rather than just saying "It's obviously impossible so let's not even consider it." Because if you keep asking the question, eventually you may find a way to say "yes." They didn't think they could make Grodd, King Shark, or Grodd vs. King Shark work... until they could. So it's a question I hope they keep asking themselves.
I still think they could pull off an Earth-based GL series with occasional space episodes using the same kind of resources they've already mastered for the other shows. If they can do Supergirl's or Firestorm's flight and energy beams, Vixen's ashe auras, CGI planes and tanks, and Killer Frost's ice constructs, then they've already got the means to animate a Green Lantern's powers. It's just the big spacey stuff and aliens that are the major FX and budgetary obstacle. So it's a question of whether they're willing to settle for a more Earthbound GL, and apparently they aren't.
If you fall asleep travelling at 90 x lightspeed... You might run the risk of becoming an extinction level event... Or your ring turns off when you sleep, so you wake up sucking vacuum wondering wtf is happening.
Having a ship makes a lot of sense if you are going to be in space for a long time rather than just traveling from one planet to another. Rest, eating, relaxing, and simply for mental health all make for important reasons a GL could use a ship.

I haven't seen any of the "flash-forward" stuff that this new project is apparently going to be based on, but in doing some research, I find myself wondering why much of the 'current' Canaries team has apparently been cut from it in favor of the Earth-2 Laurel.
It seems to me that if you're going to use a concept you already introduced as the basis for a full-on spinoff, you'd want to capitalize on what you'd already introduced... but maybe this backdoor pilot will answer my concerns.

I'm not sure it's a "given" that this new project will actually be set in the future, but maybe that ties into what I just said about much of the 'current' membership of this Canaries team being 'discarded' in favor of Earth-2 Laurel.
I have no idea what you're talking about.
I'm saying that I'm not sure we should automatically assume that this new project is going to be set in the future and speculating that its setting might be a factor in why Connor, Zoe, and William don't appear to be part of it whereas Laurel and Dinah are.
I approve in principle of a female-led ensemble show, but I can't say I'm excited by this particular one. The Arrow corner of its titular 'verse has been running on fumes for a while, and the flash-forwards to this future setting were pretty dull stuff.

Just because others are not mentioned doesn't mean they're not gonna be in it.
And you shouldn't automatically assume just because those characters aren't listed doesn't mean they won't be in it.
Seems kinda silly to do a show where 2/3 stars have to wear old-age makeup all the time.

All the article says is that it will focus on Mia, Laurel, and Dina, but that doesn't mean the others won't appear to.
I've seen plenty of these kind of announcements where they don't go through ever single member of the cast. A lot of articles about Arrow only talk about Oliver, and Flash articles only talk about Barry even though both shows have big casts. Even most of the stuff about Star Trek: Picard only talked about Jean-Luc Picard up until just a few months ago.
