Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

Evil Clone Rey?
Or her evil twin Fey?

Regardless, she's evil. The red lightsaber tells me so.

"Dark Side Rey" is wielding a red-bladed variation of the Lightsaber Pike, a weapon introduced in Rebels as the personal armament of Jedi Temple Guards.

That fleet of Mark I Imperial Star Destroyers. They all have red trim on them. They are nice and neatly in formation in some out of the way looking place.

Three possibilities:

1. Emperor's hidden fleet.
2. First Order's reserve fleet left over from the Imperials that fled into the Unknown Regions at the end of the war.
3. Katana Fleet (a highly automated lost Republic era fleet...with these ships having been lost at the end of the Clone Wars)

EDIT: I like her saber. I want to see if Ultrasabers can do that.
Also there is the not mentioned 3PO rising with red eyes. What's up with that?

They also have what looks like cannons on the bottom of them

but I still cared a lot more about the prequel characters than the sequel characters or the sequel universe.
It makes sense.

Personally, I care a lot more about the ST characters and was really hooked in to the ST stuff in the sizzle reel. Watched it twice already and trying to pick apart the details.

But, if you're not in to the characters, then its hard to get invested. So, it makes perfect sense to me.

They've said something about Threepio having a key role in all of this. Although its fairly unbelievable, I wonder if there's something to him being a witness (along with Artoo) for the events of the entire saga. Not to mention that he is "built" by Anakin. I think, myself, its more of being "rebuilt." Perhaps there's some underlying programming from a previous master. What if that master was Palpatine? What if he was placed there on Tatooine for Anakin to find? I don't know, that might be too much for the whole thing.

Or he could be Triple-Zero from Doctor Aphra.

It's definitely not going to be any idea plucked from the EU or Clone Wars. But I could also see it as an old fleet that the Resistance is now in control of.

But I doubt it. Even that is too outside the box for JJ, who just loves recycling old ideas, images, stories, without giving them even the smallest new spin.

The D23 footage was pretty awesome. One thing is for sure, it is going to be absolutely gorgeous. I love the shots of the two different fleets, and Rey and Kylo's duel.
One side of the double bladed lightsaber flipping down was a cool effect.

Yeah, that was one of the things I found most intriguing, but I haven't really seen much talk about it.

Just saw the trailer. Looks great. I was going to ask who that girl was with the flip lightsaber, but then that's basically the only comments I've seen so far. It didn't look like Rey, but maybe it was a Rey clone or something. That flip lightsaber looked pretty cool though.

It clearly looked like Rey.

I really, really, really, really hate it when they put "visions" footage in trailers.

It was already annoying in Avengers: Age of Ultron (seeing Caps shield broken, Earth being invaded ec.), and the entirety of the Batman v. Superman marketing campaign (mostly Mad Max-style Batman fighting overlord Superman).

It's always the most impressive, exciting visuals - that would have the most far reaching consequences and xciting plot turns - yet it's because it never actually happens! It's usually a very good sign that nothing in the movie itself is visually or story-wise impressive enough. So they have to cheat, and put the most exciting/surprising/subverting thing possible in a trailer (Rey turning evil!) - only for the audience to realize later: Yeah the entire rest of the plot WAS as predictable as anyone thought. And the only exciting stuff that was ever shown was actually never part of the movie itself, but inserted without context as a vision, just to have cool imagery to show off to get people speculating, and pretend the story would be more interesting than it actually is.

ugh.

I agree. But should give wizard of oz and return to oz a pass. XD

I do like the heavy use of both Yoda's Theme, the more or less Skywalker theme, but also the quiet Rey's theme at the end.

Hmm, some thoughts:
1. What if the Rey we know is the failed clone? and the parents that junked her were just people in the program that didn't want to see a kid thrown away?
2. OG Star Destroyer fleet.. looks to be in some type of nebula, and seem to be parrellel parked quite nicely.. maybe a grave/bone yard for them? Or maybe Lando mothballed them? Just leaning to the Resistance finding a the fleet and making use of it..
3. Kylo and Rey are fighting on the ruins of the 2nd death star on the Forest moon of Endor ( for some reason I've been reading there on Kamino.. why would they be there? and why would Deathstar parts be there??)
4. The Emporer cought a passing speeder when falling.. :vulcan::rommie:

Rey was not born until 11 years after the destruction of the Second Death Star and. 10 years after the Imperial remnant who founded the First Order had ensconced themselves in the Unknown Regions.
