CW Looking to Add New Arrowverse Series in 2020

I'm hoping if they do go ahead with a GL show they break the Arrowverse Hero+Team template and have a smaller main cast, no elaborate Team Base standing sets, etc. One can pick up missions via ring just sitting in a pancake place, and if they really need to waste time faffing about they can do so sitting on a nearby park bench instead of "going back to the ship" or whatever.

That way instead of figuring out how to get seven people on the payroll to conveniently not be able to use their powers or do anything, they can spend that creative energy and money on having one person actually do something...

 

My pet theory is that the reason Earth-38 has so many more aliens on it than Earth-1 is because there is no Green Lantern Corps in that universe. Think about it -- whenever we learn the origins of the alien-immigrant characters in Supergirl, it usually turns out that they came to Earth because they were fleeing the conquest or destruction of their homeworlds. Maybe that's because there's no GLC to prevent all those conquests and destructions. In Earth-1's universe, where the GLC implicitly does exist (there have been references to a pilot named Hal Jordan and a disappearing Ferris Air test pilot), there are far fewer refugees in need of a new place to live, and maybe the GLC provides alien refugees with other worlds to resettle on, or maybe interdicts alien travel to Earth because of some Prime Directive sort of thing. Heck, maybe they even prevented Krypton-1's destruction, explaining the lack of Superpeople on Earth-1.

Well, as I've been saying, standing sets are valuable for an FX-heavy show because they let you save money on sets and locations, so you have more to spend on FX and action. If the show is Earth-based, sure, the standing sets could just be things like GL's home and workplace and hangout, but if it's space-based, it's smart to have a ship as a regular location.

Also, in today's serialized times, large casts are kind of inevitable to generate story arcs. A more episodic, case-of-the-week procedural doesn't really seem like The CW's sort of thing. Although I gather that Supernatural has generally had a main cast of only 2-4 people per season, so maybe it's not out of the question.

 

I was just flipping through my Secret Origin digital comics, and it's almost entirely Earth based, except for Hal's introduction to Oa and the rest of the Corps in the second issue, and a return to Oa at the end, and I could easily see it serving as a basis for the entire first season of a TV series.
For those who aren't familiar with it, it mostly focuses on Hal and his future nemesis Sinestro, who is basically his training officer, hunting down the future Red Lantern leader Atrocitus on Earth, with Hector Hammond's transformation into a super villain as a subplot. I could easily see that being stretched out for a season, especially if we change it from just Atrocitus to a whole gang of Red Lanterns. I could see them using Sinestro's turn as the big cliffhanger ending, leading into a second season where we get a bit more of a space focus as Hal sets off to hunt down Sinestro, who is in the process of recruiting members of the Sinestro Corps.
My only hesitation is that there is a chance it could end up feeling a bit to much like Kara going after the Fort Rozz escapees in Season 1 of Supergirl.
As for a ship, maybe rather than it being something Hal needs, maybe he needs it so he can bring his supporting cast, Carol Ferris, Thomas Kalmaku, and Hector Hammond along when he heads off into space at the start of Season 2. We could also through in a couple other supporting GLs since we're losing Sinestro as a good guy. Maybe Arisia, Kilogwog, and Katma Tui? Since we'll have Carol going along on the space adventure, this might also be a good place to start building up to hear becoming a Star Sapphire.

 

Lets steal from Captain Universe or Dial H for Hero.

The ring goes to a nobody, to fight evil, they fight evil, THEY DIE, roll credits.

So each week it's a different B-lister having a 40 minute adventure and then wandering off into obscurity.

 

You and others are dong exactly that by trying to dream up shaky excuses for GL to be earth bound, as a way of avoiding what it would take to make a legitimate GL production. Again, this is not Batman or Green Arrow, and I hope the DCEU moves forward with treating the GL universe as it should be on the big screen.

 

You are incorrect, because there is absolutely no reason why you can not do an expansive and true-to-the-comics Green Lantern series on television.

You keep assuming that the opposite is true, however, which is why I said that you're the only one talking about a GL series being "watered down".

 

Blue Beetle and Booster Gold were shit on Smallville.

Kord Inc, (Kord co?) has been mentioned over and over again in the Arrowverse.

 

Jamie Reyes Beetle is in development as a movie. So I guess Ted is up for grabs.

 

The best thing about Jaime was the one year later timejump near the beginniing of his run.

A dinky 14 year old he was tutoring, suddenly became a hot 15 year old jail bait... For 15 year old Jaime who had been in stasis for 12 months.

Oh, and the paranoid over reaction every time he got close to a Green Lantern.

 

I don't think you go to jail if you are fifteen and fourteen, but maybe in some States--who knows.

Jaime has always been under rated and received much more poorly among DC fandom than he deserves to be. He's an awesome character with an awesome concept--I wish that a creative team could really find a way to boost his popularity. Maybe a television show in the Arrowverse could do that. Ted Kord has become his mentor so maybe it could be a great Arrowverse series, and a gateway to the space based characters of the DCU.

The fact there's so much shuffling and theorizing about the cost of FX being an issue (which speaks to GL's larger universe as his true environment) is pointing to the ways it could be watered down, especially when one considers the often poor FX on many of the DC/CW shows.

Robinson's Starman would make for a good Arrowverse (or other DCTV platform) show. Interesting characters and plotlines. Other than Jack's space journey doable on a TV budget

 

Would clash with DCU's "Stargirl" series, though.

I'm pretty sure Kai means that since Stargirl is already on DCU, that makes it unlikely that The CW would want to do something closely related to it. It's about their preferences, not yours.

Then again, Titans and Batwoman are both Batman-related, and Constantine debuted in Swamp Thing. So maybe some overlap is allowed.

Star Girl and Star Man same a power set.

If everyone was friendly, they could share the same SFX, and save some cash.

Change the colour, and they could share SFX with the Green Lanterns too.

He may have been tapping the lines between Alan's ring and the central power battery?

Alan Scott used the Starheart, and wasn't part of the corps.

Yellow power Lanterns didn't exist yet.
