New Picard SDCC Trailer

I had a thought about why Data calls Picard captain in the scene in the trailer. Maybe that scene is right after Data has been brought back, and the reason he calls Picard captain is because he hasn't been updated on what's happened in the 20 years he's been dead.

Data's wearing the Nemesis uniform in that scene (if you look super close, you can make out some grey shoulder pixels). I'm convinced it's a holoprogram Picard is running, although I suspect one with Data's true consciousness uploaded to it and not a mere simulation. The leaked character sheet from months ago did feature a positronic scientist.

Might be a simple dream sequence, too - a memory Picard is having for our benefit. But doing that with a hologram would give it the Trek touch all right.

I'm not sure if it's been officially announced, but I'm pretty sure the positronic scientist is Alison Pill's Doctor Agnes Jurati. She appears to be the one with Picard when he's looking at B-4's remains, and according to Trekcore she is a "researcher".

I think people are overthinking this. He could be calling him Captain out of tradition. In the same way that that retired Captains are still often referred to as Captain.

But Picard is an retired Admiral.

Right, but even Admirals could be called Captain by former crew out of nostalgic reasons, even though nostalgic is maybe not something an Android would do.

Admiral Kirk was called Captain when he took over command of the Enterprise, even though here it was more a question of protocol.

After having watched the Trailer again for the umpteenth time,

I think that some of the crew he puts together must have been youngsters on the Enterprise-D.

The line ".. be the Captain THEY remember..." just seems to scream that out to me.

That would tie back to an exchange between Picard and Riker in "Encounter at Farpoint".

Picard: One further thing. A special favor.

Riker: Anything, sir.

Picard: Using the same kind of strength you showed with Captain DeSoto, I would appreciate it if you can keep me from making an ass of myself with children.

Riker: Sir?

Picard: I'm not a family man, Riker, and yet, Starfleet has given me a ship with children aboard.

Riker: Yes, sir.

Picard: And I don't feel comfortable with children. But, since a captain needs an image of geniality, you're to see that's what I project.

Riker: Aye, sir.

Looks like that image still makes an impression 35 years later. (I can't believe I typed "35 years"...)

I think "Captain Picard Day" is the only thing Riker did to follow up on that. But as we saw from the trailer, that had a lasting impact (with that cute/infamous poster still hanging around). :)

One can just imagine the lasting impression Picard had on those children.
(especially the ones in the turbolift with him during the DISASTER episode)

Wouldn't be surprised if more than half the kids he met during those seven years joined Star Fleet or went on to be Scientist due to his example.
(and a few Archaeologists)
:techman:

I'm sure the banner isn't still hanging around. It's either a flashback, or Picard keeps it hanging in his museum of regret

Or it's a display somewhere that was set up in his honor.

They did show Star Fleet salvaging the Enterprise-D's primary hull on Veridian III at the end of GENERATIONS.
Somebody may have gone back through the ship and saved it.

It could have even been one of the kids that signed it or their parent.
(perhaps even Beverly)

I wonder if that scene in the trailer takes place at Star Fleet Command?

If Starfleet managed to replicate that mobile holo-emitter from Voyager, Data's problem could be solved (assuming he is a hologram).

The '25% different' crowd seems to be moving goalposts now, I had someone tell me that it only applies to productions that take place between Enterprise and TOS, which is why Picard looks more 'faithful'.

This is so amusing. Both sides have taken what appears to be a fact (the 25 percent different edict) and running with it.
Put it this way...I wouldn’t be surprised if, assuming it shows up in a cameo, the Enterprise E hasn’t had a refit making it...about 25 percent different. Because then eaglemoss and the like have to pay for a new license should they do collectibles, rather than depend on their existing license for the ships likeness. On the other hand...eaves is still on the payroll, so maybe they won’t bother.
Apart from that, most people use it as a running joke. I mean..is that 25 percent of Data’s fave that’s gone puffy? (That’s great for new action figures!)
Is Picard 25 percent more wrinkly?

Maybe Picardos appearance in S2 is precisely about this. S1 b-plot is the search for Data. S2 is Data adjusting to life as a photonic. Thematically on point with Borg/Ex-Borg too.

Bald & Bearded Romulan: Anything, sir.

Bald & Bearded Romulan: Sir?

Picard: I'm not a family man and yet, I've been given a ship with 40-year-olds who've moved back in.

Bald & Bearded Romulan: Yes, sir.

Picard: And I don't feel comfortable with children, 40 or otherwise. But, since a captain needs an image of geniality, you're to see that's what I project.

Bald & Bearded Romluan: Be the captain they remember.

Picard: Can you please just put a disruptor to my head? Thank you.
