Robert Picardo to return for Picard

I'm honestly surprised Picardo was allowed to disclose this. Don't shows typically want to keep famous guest stars for the next season under wraps?

I wonder if this means we'll be forced to deal with yet more de-aging effects? Picardo doesn't look the same as 20 years ago of course. He hasn't put on any weight though, and it's not like he got any balder. With some hair dye on what he has left, he would look fairly analogous to what he looked like by the end of Voyager.

A lot of the Discovery die hards are so threatened by Picard it's unreal, so many heckles are up.

One of them told me she was concerned that Picard wouldn't be very diverse and would perform better than Discovery. I said don't worry Picard WILL be diverse.

We just need to reassure them it's going to be ok.
Why would somebody who likes DISCOVERY feel threatened by PICARD?
Seems silly to me.

Didn't the EMH alter his program a few times to look older?
Perhaps They will just go with that and not do anything to him.
He's a lot like Data in that regard, wanting to fit in with human society on the whole.

I'm glad to hear Robert Picardo maybe back as Dr. Zimmerman or as the Holographic doctor he was one of my favorite Voyager Characters.

I hope this helps to get more people to check out Voyager. Yes, 90% of it was bland or terrible, but Ryan and Picardo (and Seven and The Doctor) were consistently fantastic. And there's somewhere around 25 episodes (EDIT: 27 Thanks OCD list!) that are universally regarded as great-to-excellent according to the ratings at IMDb and TV.com. That's an entire season of Star Trek goodness starring two fans favorites just waiting to be watched. The show being mostly episodic means you don't have to be a completist about it either. Just treat it like classic Doctor Who and skip to the good stuff.

Maybe CBS, or his agent forgot to tell him that it was secret.

I didn't find it to be bland or terrible. Liked Voyager for the most part.

I've said before and I'll say again- some nice Voy fan service going on with Picard. But where is there any DS9 representation? That show had fans too.

As a massive DS9 fan, I honestly can't think of an organic way they can bring any of them into Picard without it being jarring as fuck outside of Worf and the O'Briens. Seven and The Doctor at least both have a ton of first-hand Borg knowledge (Seven experientially and The Doctor medically) that the rest of the Federation just doesn't have, so they make sense in a Borg-centric story. None of the other Niner characters even met Picard.

Well, Sisko did. But Avery Brooks retired from acting back in 2001 (aside from the occasional stage production) to teach theatre at Rutgers. And he seems the sort of eccentric dude that a) wouldn't see the point in ever returning and b) might be difficult to reign in even if he was somehow wooed back into film & TV acting. The dude marches to the beat of his own drum, and I love him for it. I just don't see a Sisko return working out.

Still feel quite wary about bringing back these characters, but if this show succeeds, it might at least persuade people to rewatch Voyager so it can FINALLY GET THE RESPECT IT DESERVES.

Really though, this had the same effect on me as Seven returning - I'm extremely cautious of it, but I'm excited anyway, and the actors are brilliant enough to make just about any material succeed.

It's actually a bit easier to imagine The Doctor aging his physical representation than Data. I mean, it's pretty much effortless for him to change his appearance, unlike Data. Also, The Doctor clearly isn't vain, and felt it was just fine to keep looking like Dr. Zimmerman instead of someone younger/better looking/less bald. So I don't see why he would care about aging.

An episode of TNG said Data can age, his mother could also age (though she was more advanced than him)

So I assume there's something special about his outward appearance that can change over time.

I'm aware of that. But my point is Data's "aging program" at minimum required some sort of energy to change his physical form. The Doctor is just photons. All he has to do is twitch his nose or snap his fingers, and he can look like someone else. It makes the aging process far more "effortless" for him.

And Brooks didn't even want to contribute anything new to the DS9 documentary. I think that tells you all you need to know there, as he wouldn't have even had to "act" in that.

Meh. I'll give it a shot like anything else. But the excitement from the first trailer is oozing away.

Exactly. I like Sisko a lot, but I don't see how he ties in to the current storyline.
