Funny though isn't it that Patrick Stewart himself (by his own comments) DOESN'T see the project as a sequel to TNG - and WASN'T INTERESTED in doing such a sequel (which is why he told them 'no' many times before the final pitch that sold him).

Face it - because you LOVE TNG, you enjoy the fact that you're seeing other characters you love again. You don't care for the TOS era as much so you can't understand why fans who love that era were excited and interested they were bringing old characters those fans loved (and the writers and actors BOTH did an amazing job in bringing those new 21st century version of said characters to life - to the point fans of the TOS era WANT a 'Pike' show.)

So yeah, excuse me if I call out the fact that when it's something you don't care for it's degraded as 'fanwank'; but since TNG is are era you love anything there WRT bringing old characters back is just 'natural'/'logical'.

Again, Star Trek (TOS) has a 53 year history, and TNG has a 30 year history. I don't think it's either crazy, lazy or 'fanwank' for them to do things, like use or revist good/popular characters that give a nod to the older fans who've stuck with the franchise for years while still doing NEW stuff that does entice new fans to jump in.

I hope the new stuff takes more focus. That would easy my disquiet over this series.

They've emphasized in interviews that Picard's new 'crew' and their story (in connection to Picard) is the main focus of the story.

No, he's right. It's just the Borg were only ever used effectively twice -- Q Who and BoBW Part 1.

That doesn't make them the best.

To me the big difference here is that the original actors continue the story of their characters in a show whose concept is build around those characters, as opposed to new actors resurrecting old characters to appear in a show originally visioned around other characters. (Not that I was particularly opposed to Pike & Spock appearing in Discovery, but it's really not the same thing.)

Dude. I'm a TOS guy. Hardcore. It's even in my avatar. TNG is my very close second.

I just don't care for DIS introducing TOS elements. Not because it's TOS elements. But because what they do with it is fucking stupid.

Your entire post is some self-absorbed, assuming bullshit. I gave you exactly an example why PIC is allowed to do that (it's the same character/actor reprising), and why on DIS it's some fan-wanky name-recognition/brand name stupidity. Has jack shit to do with era. It's about quality.

He did deal with it though. That's my point.

I should point out, they've confirmed Frakes is returning, not Will Riker.

He could be playing Tom. I mean, wouldn't that be fun, Picard having to turn to the morally compromised clone of his first officer for help?

I saw somewhere that Stewart said he had filmed with Frakes as Riker?

Thoughts on Dahj being Picards daughter. Made by the Borg using Picard/Locutus DNA?

Doesn't really answer the question as to why she is a danger to the galaxy though. That's the one sticking point for me.

I hope he will appear. If not in season 1, then in a later one.

    Quoting Wikipedia:

"A sequel is a literature, film, theatre, television, music or video game that continues the story of, or expands upon, some earlier work. In the common context of a narrative work of fiction, a sequel portrays events set in the same fictional universe as an earlier work, usually chronologically following the events of that work."

So PIC is clearly a sequel of TNG as per this common definition. And also of ENT, TOS, TAS, DS9, VOY and DIS (at least season 1 and 2).

I think what Stewart meant with PIC not being a sequel to TNG is, that outside of being set in the same universe at a later time and with some old characters, that it will be really different to TNG. Picard, Riker, Troi, Worf, etc. won't be the crew of the Enterprise again. The whole premise will be different. Likely the tone will also be changed a bit. It won't feel and look like TNG 2.0.

Self aware Borg with knowledge of Picard (even if 20+ years outdated), ability to assimilate anyone at any time, incredibly strong, smart, etc...
If these are all true, she could infact be a danger to the galaxy

Yeah, by most common definitions it’s probably closer to a spin-off.

Discovery was a reboot that they changed to a prequel that they changed into a sequel?! Who knows what that show is about now anyway. PIC is definitely a spin-off.

It definitely has a different tone than TNG which is nice. I think that's why things like Seven and Data stand out so much to me. It feels like a mismatch of tone...kind of. It's hard to explain.

If ST: Picard succeeds, I want a ST: Sisko, ST: Janeway, ST: Riker, etc.

All but Sisko, DS9 never gets any love :)
But seriously, I can definitely see a Janeway series. Kate Mulgrew kicked as as Janeway, kicks ass as Red, definitely would kick ass in any future Trek.
