Hey, I never noticed that before....

Also watching "The Man Trap" I see that Uhura was on helm duty in the opening scene. Not in the middle of a crisis. Not because the helman is off ship. I never noticed that before.

I like this detail, though it’s probably an unintended consequence of the avilable shot being lifted from “The Naked Time,” since this sequence was not originally scripted, but created editorially.

There was a lot of "lifting" in the third season, probably to save a penny. In watching a transporter scene, a red shirt lieutenant was beaming someone in/out then the close up of him operating the sliding controls showed that he was instantly promoted to Lt. Commander based on his sleeve braids. Wow. :o

Yes, the 3rd season low budget affected all of the different production departments, except maybe Fred Freiberger’s paycheck.

2. Mitchell holds the yeoman's hand the entire crossing the galaxy border. He mans the helm one-handed.I think it was his right hand but I'm not sure. Is Mitchell that good that he cam]n operate his helm one-naded during a crisis with his non-preferred hand?
Mitchell was that horny. ;)

Mitchell reaches back towards Yeoman Smith with his right hand and handles the helm with his left, BTW. Probably because it was the easiest to do, staging-wise:

Didn't somebody do a story where
Yeoman Smith gained some sort of powers because she was holding Gary's hand when they went through the barrier?
I have a vague memory of reading that somewhere...

I have that effect on people. It's a gift.

Kelso, Mitchell and Scotty are wearing the salmon operations uniforms, the predecessor of the red shirt.

And thank the stars - or pitchforks and pointed ears, per McCoy in Obsession - for that coloring change.

BTW those lifts happened in S2 as well.

I just watched that. It wasn't bad. I really liked Lt. Smith. Something about her eyes...

I've enjoyed what I've seen of Star Trek Continues (They really nailed the 60s look in their shooting style), but it's been tough to watch any more since I found out about this.

MeTV was just playing "Errand of Mercy" last night, and it stuck out at me how, when the ship is being attacked by the Klingons, a blueshirt wanders by in the foreground between the helm console and viewscreen and sort of casually rubbernecks at the screen while he's going by, like he's just noticing that they're in combat. Dude, Battle Stations--find where you're supposed to be and plant your butt there!
