That's the point and why I find the whole thing discouraging. I find no hope. They only care about the buzz of having Tarantino linked to trek and people wondering about it because it's just so crazy. They don't care about this trek and they have no plans so there isn't even an integrity for them to respect. Like I said before, next time why not hire Almodóvar or better yet, Dario Argento?
It's depressing for me because I'm sure there are many who actually loved these movies and would like to use their potential, instead we have this.. joke.
I'm the first to say they shouldn't placate fans or listen to us, but between that and hiring someone like Tarantino there are millions of other, more balanced, options.

Oh well. I’m more interested, not less. I’m a huge Tarantino fan and would very much love to see his take on Trek. The fact it could (likely would) be very different than anything else in Trek is a feature, not a bug. Different strokes...

I think there will be more to it that that. I have a faint hope but its still present.

But, I get your point of view. I just still have a little bit of hope, however slight.

It's so hard to figure it out without any knowledge. The only thing we know is that Tarantino is a huge fan of the original series, which is a major plus, and that he's involved. Who's in it? Is it even Kirk and crew? Is it some new crew? Is the prime universe involved? Is the Kelvin universe involved?

    Is it something completely different?

Should be a sequel to A Piece of the Action, where the Iotians have advanced to 70s level tech and gangsterism. Kirk and company finally remember to go back to collect the Federation’s “cut” and have to deal with a mix of the Corleones and the Sopranos.

All with a carefully curated sound track, natch.

    Don't know.

And, this will be irritating to some, but I don't care all that much. I can speculate all that I want but until I see the blasted film your guess is as good as mine. The studio could easily restrict Tarantino from all his self-indulgence, and just rely upon his name.

I liked each of the Kelvin films, more than most of the originals. Unfortunately, between Beyond’s disappointing box office and Paramount’s struggles, they haven’t been able to get a fourth Kelvin film, or any other Trek film, off the ground.

Tarantino may be the one man who can make it happen. I’d rather at least give that a chance than be left with nothing at all. I’d also rather have something ambitious and different from somebody with a vision and reputation rather than the safe, generic stuff we have been served in the past.

If this happens, it'll probably be a Logan-esque thing where some elements of the previous Treks are referenced but loads is ignored too. And really, what Trek fan expects solid continuity in 2019?

For example, if it does feature Patrick Stewart, William Shatner and Chris Pine as the rumours suggest, I seriously doubt it'll try to remain consistent with what The Picard Show is doing. Tarantino's version of Old Picard might still be kicking ass in space wearing a vest. His version of Pine's Kirk might still be the guy he was at the start of Into Darkness. His version of Shatner Kirk could be a broken old man desperately clinging to past glories.

Between safe and Tarantino there is a galaxy of other options tho. Serioustly, why not hire Dario Argento then? If anyone can...

And who is to say his movie wouldn't be safe in his own way too? Instead of challenging himself with something outside his comfort zone, it seems the man just wants to make trek look like any of his other movies. He is being predictable.

I love that, since the beginning, Tarantino's fans are trying to convince concerned kelvin trek fans that no, the man won't make pulp fiction in space and that's ridiculous to assume that! Well, he is pretty much saying that he'll do exactly that lol.
Even the cast tried to tell us that his movie wouldn't be like his usual movies, they took for granted he'd respect the integrity of this trek and do something different from his other movies. Well, he's annoyed at Pegg ..he is offended the cast assumed he'd adapt himself to this genre when, clearly, it's trek that must change to make sense with his style.

Tarantino is like someone who watches a tennis game only to complain it isn't football, which is the sport he prefers. It is just nonsense.
Not all the directors can adapt themselves to different genres or they want to.

To be honest? It works! I haven't seen "Beyond" in cinemas, and honestly wouldn't care for a "normal" ST4, and Paramount has no alternative either. But Tarantino making ST4? I'm on board, baby!

But, honestly: I feel ya'. I really do.
It's kinda a similar situation with MARVEL's "Thor".Ever since "Ragnarok" came along - totally crazy bonkers - people seem to dig him. But for someone who was more interested in the more serious Thor from the previous movies - and quite honestly was into the weird "Viking gods as space-aliens"-angle played straight - "Ragnarok" has been a dis-service for the character and his universe. I think Paramount is desperate enough to want to try something similar.

It might be hard... but (if it should indeed happen) the best approach would IMO be simply to embrace it. No need to get hung up over characters in blockbusters. That's simply the law of Hollywood: Every successfull movie series is more likely to end with a "Superman IV: The Quest for peace", "Batman Forever", "Dark Knight Rises" or "On stranger Tides" than with a "The Last Crusade" or "Return of the Jedi". I know that might sound jaded - but in reality it just should make one appreciate it even more when something actually turns out good the first time.

That doesn't irritate me at all. It's an opinion. See for me, I will not blindly support something because it is Star Trek. If it's good, I will. If it's not, I'll blast it, because all I really want is good Star Trek. Yet for me, that does require certain things in a movie, and one of those things is Kirk and crew. I don't think I would care that much if Tarrantino makes a new crew.

My dream movie is a kitchen sink story, like those that Doctor Who has pulled off multiple times. Give something for every fan of every era, with tons of fanboy moments, yet not SO fanboyish that the mainstream can't follow.

Someone mentioned the idea of a storyline connected to different points in Trek history.

    That could work.

For me, I would love to see something that includes Shatner--finally, and gives Kirk a happy ending that he didn't get in Generations. I want that. I don't expect that.

I'd love to see Kirk Prime get that sendoff he deserves. There's a story out there that can pull it off, and de-aging technology that can do almost anything with Shatner.

Tarrantino talks like he gets it. Again, I doubt he will do what I hope, but for me, a perfect movie would have Shatner in it, give a line or two as to why he's alive, and maybe have a comic book tie-in that tells that story.

This interview gave me some hope, but ultimately, there's just no info. It could be something completely different. Time will tell.

How can one destroy something that's already dead?

Paramount would be negligent to say, "Sorry, even though you're a legendary filmmaker and could spark interest in Trek and completely resuscitate our franchise with these popular new actors, we don't want you. We're not interested in continuing this franchise. We have so much integrity, we'd rather stay dead."

There are exactly two realistic choices for the future of the Trek Kelvinverse franchise:

    1. Tarantino
    2. Extinction

I'll roll the dice on the first option and see how it plays out.

Who knows? QT Trek could be so popular --even if his story is a duo-based Kirk/Spock bromance flick --that it could spark the desire for more Kelvinverse films that are more traditional approaches. Maybe it's a surprise sci-fantasy masterpiece. Maybe it's a dud that everyone ignores like Never Say Never Again in the Bond series. Maybe it's somewhere in-between.

But with another film of any type --especially one directed by an elite filmmaker that's going to generate enormous interest in the project -- there's HOPE. Hope that it's awesome....hope for more Trek in the future.

The only other option is accepting extinction. No thanks.

I'm thrilled this is progressing toward the phase where it's becoming a true possibility. Amazing.

I'm not sure if making "Pulp Fiction in Space" is completely getting it, but I could be wrong. :vulcan:

It isn't dead. We were supposed to get a trilogy and we got one (a successful one too, even if beyond underperformed). More movies are only a plus if they want to use the potential they have and give more closure to the characters, or create some inspiration for spin offs set in this reality.
It certaintly should make more sense to add more movies if they are decent or good enough and don't ruin or taint the previous ones.

I'm seeing some deflecting here. Unless you talk with kelvin trek haters, I think those who enjoy these movies are more than interested about getting a sequel. The fact I don't like Tarantino and I don't think, from what he is saying, he is a good choice doesn't mean I want this trek to be dead, though.
I don't think there can't possibly be other options that make more sense than him.

I get people are fans of him or like his movies, but I feel like some aren't being truly objective now when it comes to the reasons why people don't blindly embrace 'Tarantino trek' and they are worried.
It's disingenuos too. I mean, first his fans denied he'd make 'pulp fiction in space' and laughed at people who were worried he would do that. Now that he's pretty much saying that he indeed wants to turn trek into one of his movies, excuses are still made for him and basically pulp fiction and gangsters in space is gold.

These two options might as well be the same thing, except the first is far more expensive.

This guy isn't a God, btw, so I cannot get the worshiping. I find him highly overrated as a director, and the fact he also is a problematic human being doesn't make it easy for me to support him either. His connections or lucky stars must be truly good because other guys were #canceled by hollywood and critics for much less.

This is an excellent point. I certainly didn't think that would be the direction that the studio would want to go, but after these interviews my skepticism levels are increasing substantially.

Given that his movies don't look like each other, how is that going to happen?
