Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

I like the Sith Troopers, it's a pretty cool design. So I wonder they will be Kylo Ren's creation or Palpatine's?
Howard the Duck actually got his own movie before. It's arguably one of the only 20th century marvel movies people remember (though not for good reasons). From a certain point of view he's less obscure than Iron Man, Black Widow and (especially) Hawkeye. And there are other highly obscure marvel properties still to come (the Eternals certainly doesn't seem to have even the following that the Guardians would've had before their movie).
I think Blade was pretty obscure when he got his movie.

So that symbol next to the Sith Trooper name on the box/packing also appears next to Vader's name in an upcoming book, so I guess this is a new symbol for the Sith in general?

Edit:

Oh, the stand itself also has just the word 'Sith' by itself next to the symbol

there really lends a point to the fact it's a symbol for the sith in general

I mean the design is cool, but not very inspired. I always thought what would make a good idea for a sequel trilogy/Sith trooper would be something that invoked Darth Vader's suit, showing his influence over the First Order, and with Kylo Ren in charge, his infatuation with his grandfather.

Dunno if it’s been suggested before, I don’t remember seeing it...but my Seven year old has just come up with an interesting theory. He says it doesn’t quite work...but...I am not sure about Ages, só it very much might.

He has suggested Kylo Ren is Reys father.

It’s....an intriguing and, depending on the characters ages, quite a good theory.

It’s very fashionable to forget Blade existed.

I stand to believe that the Sith Troopers are Palpatine's. For one, JJ made a point that Snoke and Kylo were not Sith. They are "something else." Plus, as I've suggested elsewhere, Snoke had to get his resources from somewhere. He had a benefactor who funded the First Order. The Sith, powered by Palps, could be that open wallet. Along with that, he would have the designs and specs from the Empire days and perhaps the designers themselves if they moved to the Outer Rim until they were ready to make their appearance.

For a seven-year old, sure its a good theory. But... If you're going to go solely by the actors' ages alone, Ridley is 27 and Driver is 35. Outside of that, I think the more compelling idea is that together they represent the balance of the Force. It explains the attraction and repulsion of one another -- that they are continually drawn to one another and yet can't come together truly as allies (or if you want to go all Reylo, lovers). And them being the mirror of one another is pretty well visualized in the cover for The Art Of book that will be released in December.

It's an interesting idea, but I just don't think it would work. According to Wookiepedia Ben Solo was born 5 years after the Battle of Yavin, and Rey was born 15 years after the Battle of Yavin, so there's only a 10 year different between them. I guess it could theoretically be possible, but it seems very unlikely to me.
According to Daisy Ridley they made the lightsabers lighter for Rise of Skywalker in order to make it easier to do the more acrobatic fight scenes they wanted. She also said it will have to one of the most epic fights in the series.

Yep. I went and checked the ages too. Shame. Because an ‘I am your father moment’ revealing the deadbeat parents to be himself and his mrs teenagers on the run, the darkness Luke sensed in him being the fact he hid this relationship and abandoned Rey, would be a nice echo of Anakin and Padme and make perfect sense. Especially if he was feeling abandoned in some way by his own parents...guilt at himself for leaving Reys mother feeling it’s echo in Hans going back to smuggling, so that he was killing Ben solo on that bridge as well as Han Solo (Which he sort of was anyway)

Of course, I don’t think my seven year old came up with all that rationale, that’s my own thinking, but he just fancied solving the mystery.

'One of'. Blade's existence isn't relevant to what I said, so I didn't mention it, but I also didn't ignore it.

Indeed. And what I was saying agreed with your ‘one of’. Blade is the important one in many respects....not a big star comic (not even his own title) BAME lead (years before black panther) and got a trilogy including a Del Toro film. And yet...you would think we all dreamt it all. XD

Anyone else good with Rey's parents just being nobodies? Can't be bothered with some big reveal that she's actually the daughter of Palpatine, or whatever.

Seems like a move to placate the fans after TLJ.

Don’t like them being nobodies, it’s not how SW works for solid reasons, but would not like anything too out there cheeses either.

Could stand secret granddaughter of obi wan though, but that would take an extra film to explain....even if it would have the poetry of obi wan having gone through a similar forbidden love thing to Anakin and handled it differently.

Safe money is she’s some kind of skywalker or another virgin birth though. The second coming.

Have to wait and see how it plays out. Though I don’t think the original plan was for them to be nobodies.

Yeah, but the original plan at least seems to have been pretty fluid. Even so, I just find the idea that she somehow needs to be related to another character a little unnecessary. Almost diminishes her character a little.

How is that not how SW works? It's not like every Jedi needs to be a Skywalker or a Kenobi. I wouldn't be surprised if JJ goes for another virgin birth or ultra-Anakin style Jedi as a way to tie up the saga while also placating the fanbase, but I don't like the idea.
