My daughter and her family have been in Las Vegas this past week, and they felt the 6.4 earthquake from the 10th floor of the Luxor Hotel. People are leaving Vegas in droves now. My daughter comes home Saturday and I hope there are no more quakes before then.
Just looking out of the window and across to the neighbour’s empty house. She was an avid gardener but now it’s all fallow and the wild grasses have taken hold, and yet the solar powered garden lights glow on. Very sad.
Something like that happened with a house next door to me. A girl I was in love with in high school moved in next door with her family. She had her yard looking beautiful with all kinds of flowers. When they moved out, not one of the many different people who moved there has done anything with it. We're lucky if their lawn is mowed.

Just out of curiousity, how far away did you move? You had previously mentioned the weather being different, and now the local fauna as well. I believe you had once categorized it as "half way across the country", but that's a fairly generalized statement. (And would mean something different in a country the size of France, vs. one the size of Canada.) I must admit, I'm having trouble wrapping my head around someone completely uprooting their life like that, in such a short timeframe, to avoid running into a specific acquaintance. An abusive partner? Sure, I can totally understand that. "Someone I don't like", I'm having difficulty grasping. I can't remember if you said you were already retired or not. If not, I'm assuming your job was flexible enough to allow for something like this?
According to an article in The Scientist, a tiny knee bone called the fabella, which was once lost over the course of early human evolution, has been making a comeback over the last century. The fabella is a small bone in a tendon behind the knee and it's becoming more common. By more common I mean that between 1918 and 2018 the bone has become 3 times more common. So, if your knees are killing you, you might own a fabella. Tell your orthopedist.
France has a diversified flora and fauna. In the northern part of it (which is more or less where I was) poisonous snakes are completely absent, not so much in the southern part (which is more or less where I am now). I will not give more information as to those locations, the former and the current. Different people have different ways of dealing with things. I don't always understand why people do what they do and so I don't expect people to understand my motives. I am not retired but my workload is (voluntarily) much lighter than it used to be. I am my own boss. I don't work at a specific location, except when it's my house. As for my quick moving, it's easy to explain. Whenever I make some money I always put some aside in a "for a rainy day" account, I am prudent that way. I don't use it very often, so it turns out that I had enough there for a monsoon. That allowed me to make an offer above market value to the proprietor with a clock (my offer was only good for 24 hours and it was a take it or leave it one) I also intimated that I had made similar offers to other people (Which wasn't true at the moment but I didn't exactly say it) Anyway, In a couple of hours, the deal was done. Why wait to move in, then? I don't regret that deal. It's a beautiful house and I have all the time I need to sell the former one. No need to rush. About the temperature, the other day it was higher by about eight degrees Celsius to the one in my former location. That's a lot, given that it was already hot there!

I take micro-naps during the day. I don't know if it's good or bad but I just can't help it, otherwise, my eyes will keep closing as if I had lead weights attached to my eyelids. They rarely last more than ten minutes. Usually, two or three of them will do the trick.
